SAINTS KEEP WINNING

Ceredigion Costcutter League round up

Division  1

St Dogmaels returned to league action after a fortnight break and it was business as usual as they registered six of the best as they outplayed Newcastle Emlyn at the School Field.

Their 3-0 success was their sixth win on the trot and well deserved and they could have won by a few more but the reds, who are a shadow of the successful team of last season were missing a few regulars and didn’t have a recognised keeper with Robbie Jenkins and Owain Thomas taking it in turn to stand between the sticks.

Greens front runner Peter Almond opened the scoring when he headed home an Adam Williams free kick and Almond had another fine chance to add this but stand in keeper Robbie Jenkins saved well. At the other end Jaydn Lynch enjoyed a couple of long range efforts but he didn’t really trouble the keeper.

The hosts pulled further ahead after the break following a superb team goal with Rhys Jones prominent and he set up Billy Myers who finished from a tight angle. Four minutes later it was game over as after some smart work by Chris Morgan, midfielder Jones picked his spot from the edge of the box to add his second and cap an excellent individual performance.

Crannog were held to a 2-2 draw away at Ffostrasol on a heavy pitch that had cut up following a junior match earlier in the day. It was the Wanderers who played the better football early on with Crannog second to the loose ball and it came as no surprise when the hosts went ahead. There was further woe when the hosts doubled their advantage from the penalty spot and it looked a long way back for a visiting side not at the races.

However a half time talking to from manager Rhydian Morgan did the trick and following wave after wave of attacking football Matthew Smith reduced the deficit when he scored with ten minutes remaining. Crannog continued to attack and push more players up and in the dying minutes Tom O’ Connor nudged the ball home from close range to make it 2-2.

Bargod Rangers were left to rue a missed penalty after they were edged out by 3-2 at Cae Sgwar. The visitors who could only muster ten players until after the interval fell behind to an Ollie Edwards goal before they levelled matters through Jake Kelly. Aberaeron Reserves front runner Lamin Manjang regained the lead for the hosts but once again Rangers came back, this time with a goal from Luke Grant to level matters. However a second from Edwards sealed the win but the Parc Puw men missed out on a share of the spoils with a penalty miss from Kelly.

Llandysul are still hot on the trail of St Dogmaels at the top of the division after they defeated Felinfach by 3-0. The Swallows were forced to field a weakened team, following a series of injuries picked up in some tough physical games and this allowed manager Gwynfor Edwards to give a run out to some fringe players the new manager looks ahead to a run of cup games.Three first half goals from; Jesse Clayton, Lewis Jones, and Chris Harris saw a traveling Llandysul side grab all three points.

Speaking post game the Llanelli based manager said “it was a great run out for the boys today- and they played some tidy football. A great debut by Ashley Summers assisting two early goals for us, which meant we could sit back and control the game from that point. It was a really enjoyable match, with both sides playing in the right spirit”

The match between Cardigan Town and Lampeter Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Division  2

Sixteen year old Morgan Evans was the star of the show for Maesglas at New Quay as his two excellent goals helped secure a win for the Blues.

Winger Evans enjoyed an excellent game but Quay refused to lie down and they hit back midway through the opening half when Glenn Baldwin netted from the spot and the seasiders levelled matters soon after when Ollie Evans drove the ball home from the edge of the box.

Maesglas were presented with several chances to take the lead but these were squandered but they eventually bagged the winner they deserved when a through ball found sixteen year old Dylan Karlikiuc and he lobbed the out coming keeper to claim the win.

In the Reserves Cup Felinfach defeated Maesglas Reserves by 6-3.
