BONT HIT BACK IN SECOND HALF

Cambrian Tyres League round up.

Division  1

Bont completed a remarkable comeback to defeat previously unbeaten Penparcau by 4-2 and join Llanilar at the top of the first division.

The Tangerines found themselves two goals adrift after the opening quarter as ‘Arky’ came flying out of the blocks but they were eventually pegged back in this entertaining contest.

Bont travelled to Aberystwyth in high hopes after an impressive midweek win against Bow Street Reserves but the home side boosted by the return of Micky Gornall and his brother and newly transferred Mark Gornall from Bow Street, were also looking to keep up their 100% record. The hosts started the better of the two teams causing the Bont defence all sorts of problems and were soon rewarded when Andrew Gittins picked up a loose ball to slot past Trevor Jenkins. Not long after it was 2-0 when keeper Jenkins brought down Gittins for Dylan Bailey to slot home from the resulting spot kick and he put the home side well in control and they kept pressing in search of a killer third goal.

A shuffle of players and a substitution soon had Bont back in the game as Dave Jones played in Dion Davies to half the deficit with a well taken goal and he and his side finally started to get a foothold in the game and their hard work paid off as Davies grabbed his second five minutes before half time from close range to level the match at 2-2 to set up a thrilling forty five minutes.

The second half was a physical affair but it was Bont who took the game to the home side and were rewarded for their enterprise when centre back Sion Jones was found unmarked from a Lee jones free kick and he headed head home to put his team up with 20 minutes to go.

Bont seemed to grew in confidence and restricted Penparcau to a few long range efforts and Trevor Jenkins was left mainly untroubled throughout the second half and the visitors sealed a superb comeback with just a few minutes to go when Chris Wilkins ran in from deep with the ball to power home from a tight angle just inside the box and inflict the first defeat of the season on the home team.

There was further woe for Bow Street as they fell to their fourth defeat on the trot when they were beaten by Tregaron Turfs. The reigning league champions who have lost several players to other clubs are yet to register a point and face a very tough encounter with Penparcau this weekend.

Two goals from Caradog Daniel and one apiece for Llyr Davies and Gethin Williams saw the Turfs safely through for the three points to lift them up into third place.

Llanilar now head Bont on goal difference at the summit after they came through for a scrappy 4-1 win over Padarn United. Another goal from inform striker Shon Morgans and one each from Rhys Morgan and Guto Roberts plus an own goal sealed the win for them.
