Ceredigion Costcutter League round up.
Saints are closing in on the league leaders.
Division 1
St Dogmaels moved to within seven points of league leaders Lampeter Town following a comfortable 4-1 success at Llanddewi Brefi. Steve Williams and his men are now up into second place and if they manage to win their game in hand they can apply some real pressure on the runaway leaders.
The Saints opened the scoring after half an hour when Louis Harding latched on to a through ball from Rhys Jones and just five minutes later a Jones corner found the head of Adam Williams at the near post giving home keeper Rhodri Edwards little chance. However the Stars could and should have been level at the interval as William Williams beat custodian Carl Woodhouse to a through ball but his looping header came back off the crossbar and shortly afterwards Andrew Jones misplaced his header when only two yards out.The visitors could also have doubled their score before the break with two great chances and a couple of decent shouts for a penalty.
Stars had another gilt edged chance at the start of the second half with the combination of Andrew Jones and William Williams but again they were foiled by Woodhouse, before they eventually halved the deficit as a fine low drive by Carwyn Richards found the bottom corner.
The Saints were then reduced to ten men when Aaron Williams was shown a red card by referee Nigel Edwards for an off the ball incident and the Stars gave their opponents a few scares before Pete Almond was put clean through after a one two combination with Harding and he made it 3-1. Stars custodian Edwards bravely dived at the feet of Almond and as a result had to leave the pitch with a nasty gash which later required ten stitches. Stars goal scorer Carwyn Richards went between the sticks as the home team reorganised before Harding fired home the fourth goal from close range after Craig Williams, back in first team action following a leg break, had set him up with a fine cross.
Three goals from experienced Llandysul defender Dean Jones steered reigning champions Llandysul to a 4-1 win over Crannog at the Urdd Centre. Jones was pushed up front for this fixture and he delivered the goods with three well taken goals, two of which were headers. Teenager Scott Jones grabbed the other goal for the visitors. The Swallows are now up into third place.
Aberaeron Reserves bagged three valuable points as they defeated Cardigan Town by 3-1. The black and ambers who are struggling near the foot of the table were too good for the young magpies side as goals from Jack Chetwynd,Dafydd Roberts and Lee Perkins saw them through.
