SWALLOWS RETURN TO FORM

Costcutter League and cup round up.

Reigning champions Llandysul bounced back following a shock defeat at the hands of Felinfach to overcome a Dewi Stars outfit that appear to be heading back to division two unless they can stop the rot.

The Stars who have yet to win a game this season found themselves up against a Swallows side that were up for this contest following recent criticism of their performances and they responded with their best display of the campaign, limiting the hosts to very little possession.

The visitors opened the scoring early on when the ball was bundled into the net by Ifan-Sion Mason Evans before Adrian Hazelby robbed a defender and slotted home to make it 2-0.

Some excellent work by experienced midfielder Terry Maynard helped set up number three when his deft lay off was met on the half volley by Josh Baker whose thunderbolt shot flew past the keeper. Dewi Stars came fighting back after the interval and battled away and they created a few chances on the break but the result was put beyond any doubt when substitute Chris Harris headed home a Dean Jones free kick.

A hat trick from Marc Evans helped steer league leaders Lampeter Town to a crushing victory over Cilgerran at their north road ground. Town who are the only undefeated side in division one were far too strong all round and played some excellent one touch football with none better than midfielder Christy Gale. Jason Jones who scored the all important goal at Cardigan the previous week was once again on target as was Tom Willoughby,Leon Holmes and Robert Slawkowski. Ollie Evans pulled a goal back for the Coraclemen for whom Gary Evans worked tirelessly without reward.

Two stunning free kicks from former Magpies defender Rhys Davies earned a hard fought win for Crannog away at Felinfach. Davies added the second Crannog goal after Robbie Evans had provided the opener before Gareth Pierce and Joe Jenkins replied for the milkmen. Man of the match Davies then stepped up late on to score the winner, again from a sweetly struck free kick, to seal the three points.

In division two Llanboidy remain the only unbeaten side after they inflicted the first defeat of the season upon Bargod Rangers at Parc Puw.

Experienced front runner Dafydd Makepeace was the hero for the Pembrokeshire side as he poached a brace of goals and there were singles also for Ross McDonald, Jac Griffiths and Lukasz Bukowski as the Cae Dandre men outplayed their opponents especially in the second half. Josh Grota and Robbie Jenkins replied for Rangers.

Newcastle Emlyn Reserves enjoyed a comfortable victory over Crannog Reserves thanks to four goals from Danny Williams and a hat trick from Josh Harries. Jake Shakespeare was also on target for the reds. Tony McDonald claimed a consolation goal for Crannog.

New Quay recorded their second win of the campaign after they overcame the challenge of Lampeter Reserves by 6-0. Two goals from TJ Gibbins and further goals from Sam Roman, Charlie Dent, Aaron McCarthy and Glenn Baldwin completed the rout.

Maesglas were well worth their 4-2 success over Llandysul Reserves with front runner Kieran Harman bagging two very important goals for the Blues.

In the only game played in the Reserves Cup, Ffostrasol Reserves were three nil winners over Maesglas Reserves thanks to a couple of goals from Owain Patterson and one from Josh Hastie.

League Cup round one.

Seven time winners Cardigan Town sneaked through into the second round of the League Cup but they were almost undone by an Aberporth team who played superbly throughout and it took penalties to eventually separate the sides.

The second division outfit did enough to win this game in normal time as they led with a goal from Johnny Kinsella before it was cancelled out by Josh Mellor. Reece Prowse put the airmen back into the lead but powerful front runner Ewan Jones saved his team when he grabbed an equaliser to make it all square at 2-2. Cardigan though eventually went through on penalties by 4-3.

J.Emrys Morgan Cup
Jake Kelly

Newcastle Emlyn eased their way through into the second round of the J.Emrys Morgan Cup at the expense of Machynlleth Reserves by 7-2. Talented striker Jake Kelly grabbed a well deserved hat trick, and there were goals also for former Pencader favourite Craig Gordon, midfielder Sam Skinner, winger Dion Phillips and a rare goal for player manager Owain Thomas.
