A first win of the season still looks a long way off for Llandysul after they suffered a six wicket defeat at the Welfare Ground albeit against a very good side.
This loss to Gorseinon leaves the Teifi Valley outfit languishing at the foot of the table and Andrew Edwards and his men will be hoping to put this right this weekend when they entertain league leaders Bronwydd.
The Ceredigion side who were put in on a good batting strip found themselves a wicket down with the score in single figures when opener Tom Harries was clean bowled by Josh Simmons. However fellow opener and skipper Andrew Edwards and Rhydian Harries steadied the ship and put on a partnership of 59 runs before Edwards departed just as he looked set for a big score caught off the bowling of Dan Allen for 32.
Harries was joined at the crease by in form batsman Llewellyn Hughes and the two of them added 39 for the fourth wicket with Harries compiling a very patient half century which included seven fours before he was caught plumb lbw. However at 107-3 Llandysul still looked capable of amassing a challenging total but the only innings of note came from Ben Edkins who hit four fours and a six before he was out caught behind by Joe Baker for 34 and there was little resistance after this as wickets tumbled and the visitors innings eventually closed on 181 all out with three more overs left to bat. Tom Clarke was the bowler who brought the proceedings to a swift end with 4-26 off eight overs and he was well served by Mathew Carey who took 3-5.
Gorseinon made a steady start and openers Kieran Howells and Matt Carey put on 47 for the first wicket in only 48 balls with Howells who knocked off his 54 runs in only 38 balls bagging the bulk of the runs before he was caught by Hughes off the bowling of Colin Tucker for 54. A couple of wickets followed with Arfon Jones and Tucker sending both Josh Simmons and Carey back to the pavilion to offer some hope for the visitors but a superb partnership of 93 between Ashley Pass (60) and Chris Morgan (43) put the hosts into a commanding position at 171-4 and only eleven runs short of victory. Pass reached his half century with a mighty six and he was very impressive
It was all too easy when number six bat Greg Fisher came to the crease with his talented team needing just ten runs in 75 balls and he secured the winning runs with a six to complete a comfortable victory.
In Division six Llandysul were given the game against Pontyberem 2nds as their opponents were unable to raise a side.
