SHERBON LEADS THE WAY

A Luke Sherbon winner mid-way through the second half helped steer his team back to winning ways following a string of defeats.
Manager Bishop had demanded improvement after their 5-1 Welsh Cup exit at home to Cymru Alliance leaders Prestatyn Town and he drafted in debutants Dylan Rees, Malcolm Melvin and Dafydd Jones into the side and there was marked improvement in the all-round team performance capped by the winner from the team captain.
It was the visitors who created the best chance in the opening quarter when Glen Rule’s corner created a point blank opening for Steve Tomassson, but the visiting defender blasted wide.
At the other end Aber’s first chance came as Rees dropped a lovely ball into the box for Dafydd Jones, and his superb first time volley flew just wide.
Jones then sent in a great left wing cross, which evaded everyone, before the impressive Melvin’s through ball just evaded the unmarked Luke Borrelli.
Obi Anoruo was a threat for Airbus and he hit the side netting from the left side, but Borrelli almost returned the favour by setting up former Halesowen Town player Melvin, but he failed to capitalise.
Airbus should have gone ahead just after the interval when Anoruo created a great chance for Liam O’Neill, with a one on one with the keeper but failed to pull the trigger.
Bailey Jackson then hauled down Borrelli to give Aber a golden chance, but Sherbon’s well-struck penalty hit the underside of the bar and was cleared.
Fortunately for the hosts skipper this was not to prove costly as a few minutes later Sherbon turned sharply on the edge of the box and fired home into the corner of the net to put his team ahead.
Airbus finished strongly but the home defence well led by Ryan Wollacott managed to keep the visitors out and Aber hung on for the victory which keeps the black and greens in the fight for a UEFA Europa League Play Off spot at the end of the season.
