Lampeter inspired by skipper and hat trick man Luke Lovell bounced back following defeat at Cardigan to complete a league double over New Quay.
The north road men who didn’t really turn up the previous weekend at the King George played some neat football despite the very difficult conditions and the game was in the bag after a quarter of an hour with Luke Lovell and his men already three goals ahead.
Robert Slawkowski who was outstanding throughout, skipped past his marker and crossed for Lovell to head home the opener and some smart football on the edge of the box put Lovell through five minutes later but his shot was saved on the line by a defender only for Jason Jones to tap into the empty net to make it 2-0.
Slawkowski turned provider once again on the half hour when he left his marker and swung in a terrific cross to the back post for Lovell to grab his second from close range to make it 3-0 at the break.
The second half followed a similar path as midfielder Gethin Davies chipped in a cross for Slawkowski to head home the goal he deserved to make it 4-0 and soon after Lovell took on and beat the last defender and drilled the ball home to complete his hat trick and goal number five.
Szymon Konwiak slotted home the sixth goal from close range after another fantastic run from Slawkowski to complete the rout.
St Dogmaels returned to the School Field after a long absence following some building work near their pitch and they soon got back into their stride and turned in a decent all round performance especially in the second half.
Skipper Jason Williams led by example and headed home the opener from a Chris Morgan cross but despite a hatful of chances the Saints failed to add to their score in the first half. However things changed after the break and the hosts were far more clinical in front of goal and front runner Marcus Dean added two more goals and there were singles also for Rhys Jones and Chris Jones. Caretaker manager Steve Williams said that his team could well have made it double figures such was their dominance after the break and the Saints veteran singled out midfielder Adam Williams for a man of the match performance.
Second placed side Newcastle Emlyn closed the gap at the top to only nine points after they came through as expected to win comfortably at Parc Puw but their chances of catching leaders Llandysul look slim but you just never know. All that the reds can do is to keep winning and keep the pressure on the Swallows at the top. There have been situations in the past where teams have come from a long way behind to sneak in at the rails but Gethin Davies and co have to make sure they keep winning.
The reds were 4-0 up by the break a goal from Daniel Davies with a tap in from close range, and two from striker Pete Almond, with the best of these a powerful strike from outside the box. Talented teen Ben Thomas added a fourth after good work from Daniel Davies after the Rangers keeper had fumbled the ball and it was game over by this time.
To their credit Bargod came back fighting in the second half and started brightly and got a goal back through Jake Kelly when he was sent through one on one and he tucked the ball away confidently. Emlyn responded with a number of chances that went close and Almond eventually complete his hat-trick with a deflected free kick.
The goal of the game though was yet to come and it duly arrived from Matthew Goodman after he was put through on goal and he chipped the ball over the on-coming keeper from outside the box and very much like the superb goal he scored against Cardigan a few months ago. This weekend Newcastle Emlyn face St Dogmaels in the quarter finals of the Cwpan Dai Dynamo at Parc Emlyn an this should be a good game especially with the saints improving as the weeks go by.
The match between Felinfach and Cilgerran was postponed.
In league two Llanboidy edged out Aberporth by the odd goal at Cae Dandre in the only game of the day in the division. It was the airmen who started brightest and they went close through Jonny Kinsella and were awarded a penalty but unfortunately, they fluffed their chance. Llanboidy hit back and they went ahead when Rhys Evans crossed the ball to Declan Harries and he calmly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.
The hosts pushed hard for a second goal after the break and they were eventually rewarded when Dafydd Vaughan headed home from a corner to make it 2-0. The visitors though were far from finished and they hit back when Reece Prowse slipped his marker and fired home from just inside the box to set up an exciting finale. The visitors pushed hard but Llanboidy hung on for their first home league win of the season.
In the Reserves Cup leaders Llandysul pulled further away at the top after they defeated Felinfach Reserves by 6-4 with two goals from Chris Harries and Danny Williams and one apiece for Iwan Jones and Olly McEnery.
The Swallows came flying out of the blocks and scored after only 24 seconds when Chris Harris netted and Danny Williams doubled the lead shortly after before the milkmen reduced the deficit following a mix up in defence. Iwan Jones then stretched the Llandysul lead once again with a strike from 25 yards before Felinfach took full advantage of some sloppy play from the Swallows to make it 3-2, and they shocked them again a few minutes later to level at 3-3.
The hosts were forced to dig deep but they were rewarded when Williams bagged his second goal midway through the second half and five minutes later Chris Harris scored his second to make it 5-3. The match was finally made safe when Olly McEnery got on to the scoresheet with a deflected shot to make it 6-3. But it was Felinfach who had the final say when they secured a late consolation goal to make it 6-4 at the close.
With Newcastle Emlyn dropping three points, Llandysul now only need four points from a possible twelve matches to win the league for the first time since 1989
There was a win also for Lampeter Reserves who defeated Newcastle Emlyn reserves by 3-0 whilst the match between Ffostrasol Reserves and Crannog Reserves ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
