FOOTBALL ROUND UP
Costcutter League Division One and Two and Percy Eldridge Cup
A Louis Harding hat trick helped Cilgerran Rovers bounce back following a couple of poor results to defeat New Quay by 6-1.
It was Harding who opened the hosts account in the opening quarter after a long period of pressure in the seasiders penalty box and Aaron Williams made it 2-0 after a defensive clearance fell kindly to him on the edge of the box before the visitors responded just before half time directly from a Charlie Dent corner to make it 2-1 at half time.
Confidence was high as the Rovers started to play some good football in the second half and Harding got his second with a powerful shot and Tom George killed the game off with a screamer from outside the box to make it 4-1.Harding completed his hat trick when he slotted home from the spot after Dan Bellis had been upended and it was Bellis who completed the scoring late on.
Veteran striker Gary Davies helped steer Crannog to a hard-fought win over Felinfach by 5-2. The former Saron and Newcastle Emlyn front runner fired home three goals for his team during a tough encounter that was in the balance until late on.
The home team took a 2-0 lead against the run of play with Davies grabbing the first of these when he smashed home a Chris Welch cross and this was followed up by a cool finish from George Colven. Felinfach though came storming back and hit the hosts with two quick fire goals with one of these a hotly disputed penalty but Crannog regained the lead after the break through Davies when he headed home a cross from Mike Bridges and he made it three minutes later, when he steered the ball home from a corner. Mathew Smith completed the scoring late on when headed in the final goal again from a corner, to flatter the final score line.
Bargod Rangers had a rare opportunity to celebrate on Saturday night when they secured their first win of the season after fifteen attempts! Goals from Jack Fisher, Jake Kelly and Rhydian Davies saw rangers safely home for the three points against Aberaeron Reserves.
In division two Llanboidy inflicted another heavy defeat upon SDUC with nine players getting themselves on the score sheet in the 15-0 demolition of the students. Frazer Wyatt led the way with three of them and there were two apiece for Celt Thomas Jones, Rhys Evans, Sion Thomas and Rhys Jenkins whilst Dafydd Vaughan, Caleb Young, Elis Williams and Ross McDonald bagged a single.
Percy Eldridge Cup
Lampeter Reserves 3 Ffostrasol Reserves 2
In the Percy Eldridge Cup Lampeter Reserves defeated their Ffostrasol counterparts by 3-2 thanks to a winner from Kevin Taylor.
It was the home side that were first out of the blocks and they controlled the play and enjoyed the majority of possession and they broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when Taylor swung in a corner and David Clark steered the ball home. Ffostrasol came back strongly and they were awarded a penalty with ten minutes of the half remaining and the spot kick was dispatched low into the corner, ruffling the side netting giving keeper John Lennon no chance.
Two minutes after the break Clark took a long throw in which was picked up by Gareth Young whose miskicked attempt found its way into the goal over the keeper.
Lampeter’s third goal arrived soon afterwards when Josh Roper took a long throw from near the half way into the path of Taylor and he nodded the ball home from close range.
The Wanderers came at Lampeter again after the third goal and when Luke Hunter brought down a Ffostrasol attacker the visitors were awarded a second penalty of the game. Again, the penalty was unstoppable after being placed high to the keepers right and Lampeter held on to secure the win thanks to some valiant defending from man of the match Layton Edgell with his team grateful for the Taylor goal that effectively won the game for them.
