Spar mid-Wales Division 1 League Round up.
Bow Street 1 Welshpool 1
A sizeable crowd witnessed an incident packed game which eventually finished in frustration for Bow Street who were denied time and again by visiting keeper Ed Harding who was outstanding. Writes Wyn Lewis
Despite dominating large amounts of the game, the hosts were unable to complete a victory which would have consolidated their status of fourth in the league and this was due in no small part to the man of the match display of Welshpool goalkeeper Harding who celebrated his 18th birthday in style with an excellent display
Bow Street took the lead after twenty minutes with an superb finish from Tomos Williams and it looked as if further goals would soon follow with the home side well on top but inadequate finishing and Harding’s heroics meant they were restricted to the one goal.
Then, unexpectedly in the last minutes of the half, Welshpool on a rare foray into the Bow Street half were awarded a penalty which William Pritchard duly converted
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Bow Street were reduced to ten men following a straight red card for goalkeeper Ben Williams for a ‘last man’ challenge and Tomos Wyn Roberts took over in goal. Strangely this seemed to inspired the hosts and they dominated the rest of the game and they threw everything at Welshpool and were unlucky not to score when they hit the woodwork, and they were denied on several occasions by goalkeeper Harding who pulled off four mercurial saves in the last quarter to deny the hosts with saves from Williams and Mathew Pemberthy particularly noteworthy.
The visitors were also reduced to ten men when defender Ed Baker was sent off near the end following a two-footed challenge.
Speaking after the match manager Barry Williams said’ Strange game today, we did not play well enough, but should have won the game. The boys are both frustrated and disappointed with the outcome’
Welshpool joint manager, Neil Price stated, ‘We have to be more than happy with this point. This is always a difficult place to visit, and Bow Street are an excellent team’

Aberaeron 4 Hay St Marys 2
Aberaeron went into this game against Hay with a number of regulars missing but the players that came in proved to be up to the task and the seagulls were worthy winners in the end.
Manager Jason Jones was without regular keeper Barry Edwards who was suspended and also missing the likes of Ryan Jones, Dan James, David Evans but his team started the game well from the first whistle and shut out the visitors forcing them to play the long ball game.
The deadlock was broken just on the half hour when Sion Clarke headed home a bullet of a header from a corner but Hay came back strongly and home keeper Leighton Daniels made a cracking save at his near past to save Aberaeron.
The hosts upped the tempo after the break and played some splendid football and Hay were hit by two quick fire goals from Gareth Severs who looked sharp after returning from injury to make it 3-0 and a super strike from Mike Gornall after good build up play by Gareth Lewis killed the game off.
Hay came back with a consolation goal and then doubled their score from the penalty spot but there was only one winner after the hour mark with the black and ambers far better in all departments and are now up into fourth place in division one.
