Costcutter Division One league leaders Llandysul, the favourites to win the title face reigning champions Cardigan Town this afternoon at Parc Tir Y Dref and the Magpies who have very little to lose will be looking forward to this contest.
Outstanding captain Iestyn Evans and his men have relinquished their title long ago following the departure of some key players and they will be happy to finish in the top six and anywhere higher will be a bonus. They are not expected to win today even against a Swallows side that are missing the likes of midfielder Ben Thomas and striker Adrian Hazelby but that doesn’t mean they can’t win.
The Magpies played some splendid football at times last weekend at Felinfach and the recent return of the likes of Steve Blackford, Ben Davies and James Evans brought out the best in young players like Tomos Toft and Cardigan can still have a big influence on where the silverware goes, as when they have the pick of all the players in their squad they can beat anyone.
Llandysul are more vulnerable today than at any other time this season with play maker Terry Maynard also out with injury, and the wet weather will be a leveller but front runner Simon Davies is back this afternoon.
If Cardigan head to the riverside ground with a positive attitude and manage to keep Davies quiet they can do well today.
In the other games in the division Crannog, who have hit form in recent weeks will surely have too much for Aberaeron Reserves but at Felinfach the milkmen should give St Dogmaels a run for their money whilst at Llanddewi Brefi expect the Stars to get one over a Cilgerran Rovers squad struggling with injuries.
In Division Two, leaders Ffostrasol should be given plenty of early Christmas presents from visitors SDUC who are leaking goals by the dozen whilst at Maes Radley, Pencader will certainly test any realistic promotion ambitions that Maesglas have.
In the Reserves Cup there are only two games that survive with Crannog Reserves set to entertain Lampeter Reserves and Ffostrasol Reserves hosting Felinfach Reserves.
The match of the day looks to be the Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies tie between Newcastle Emlyn and Cambrian Tyres Division One leaders Bont and this will be an intriguing contest. Bont have played Maesglas and St Dogmaels in recent weeks and many behind the scenes at those two clubs have been disappointed with their performance even though they have ended losing to the north Ceredigion outfit.
Today will be an opportunity for the Bont side to show their class at Parc Emlyn against a decent reds team. In the only other game in the competition Aberporth entertain Aberdyfi.
In the League Cup Lampeter will be looking to bounce back after a couple of early cup exits with the visit of Llanboidy.
Please check the Ceredigion League website as some games may be called off this morning.
