SUMMERS SHINES AT RAE GROUND

COSTCUTTER DIVISION 2 & RESERVES CUP.

Two early goals from hot shot Ashley Summers gave Pencader manager Kevin Evans just the start he needed at the RAE Ground where his team downed the airmen but not before a dogged fight from the hosts.

Evans and co who look to be one of the main contenders for the title secured their first win of the season after an impressive all round performance which pleased manager Kevin Evans who commented:

“I was happy with the way we played and especially the way we started dominating possession early on.

“But I have a lot of respect for Aberporth with their approach to the game and they way they kept battling and never gave up.”

The visitors went two up in the opening quarter with a goals from Summers before Aberporth pulled one back after a concerted period of pressure but they were hit on the break when  some smart inter passing put Rhodri Rees away and he hit the back of the net.

Pencader dominated possession after the interval and were rewarded for their dominance with two goals from Zak Morgan and they killed off the game late on with a brace from Liam Gordon.

Ffostrasol fought their way back from a two goal deficit to earn a share of the spoils at Cae Dandre but the Wanderers left it very late with Aled Rumble snatching a dramatic equaliser in the dying minutes.

The home side took the lead when Owen Jenner netted and they doubled their lead with a goal from Rhys Jenkins and Ffostrasol, another team likely to figure near the top, looked on for a heavy defeat. However they rallied after the break and pulled one back when Dion Phillips scored.

Ffostrasol pushed hard late on and knocked the ball about impressively at times with Phillips prominent and a goal finally came with a few minutes remaining when Rumble poached an equaliser.

Reserves Cup

A winner from Llanboidy midfielder Declan Harries earned Llanboidy Reserves a narrow win over Cardigan Town Reserves but the Magpies were left kicking themselves and left wondering how they missed out after creating so many chances.

Cardigan welcomed back old boys in the shape of former first team regular Steve Harper who hadn’t played for three years and Bernie Hancox who had been out of the game for ten years following a serious leg break but they soon settled in and Hancox was unlucky not to score when his shot bounced back off the crossbar. Town had a great chance to equalise but Johnny Rees fluffed his penalty and minutes later Aaron Griffiths saw a back heeled effort cleared off the goal line but the Cae Dandre men managed to hang on for the three points.

Llandysul enjoyed another fine win after they fired nine past Crannog at Parc Tir Y Dref with Chris Harries claiming another four to add to the double brace that he picked up last week. The swallows second stringers were well organised with Ben Williamson solid at the heart of defence and Paul Jones dominant in midfield. Goals came in thick and fast after the break with Scott Leask poaching two and there were singles for Jordan Jones and Liam Wursdle and an own goal.

Lampeter Reserves kept up their recent good form with a hard fought win away at Parc Troedrhiw in a very physical contest. Kevin Taylor put Lampeter ahead with his first ever goal for the club after good work by Mark Rivers and Nessim Aroussi. Ffostrasol Reserves responded to level matters before man of the match Gareth Young added a second when he headed home an Aroussi cross and the game was put to bed when David Clark fired home late on.

Newcastle Emlyn registered the biggest score of the day when they fired 14 past a severely weakened Felinfach Reserves team.
