South Wales Cricket Association:-
Llandysul fell to a heavy defeat away at Briton Ferry Steel in Division One despite another superb innings from opener Rhidian Harries who contributed almost half of the teams runs.
Harries who hit 82 against Maesteg Celtic last weekend carried on in the same rich vein of form after being put into bat by the opposition and he tucked away nine boundaries before he was run out on 73.
Llandysul 161-6 (3pts)
Briton Ferry Steel 166-1 (24pts)
Harries and opening partner Meurig Jones made a bright start before the latter was out caught by Rhys Norgrove off the bowling of Dan Williams and Tom Harries followed him back to the pavilion soon afterwards when he edged a drive straight into the gloves of wicket keeper Andrew Barrett.
Ieuan Paske was next to go after only facing four balls and at 26-3 Llandysul faced a long struggle especially as they were missing a few regulars against a side flying high near the top of the division. However club captain Darrel Griffiths knuckled down and led by example and shared in a stand of 74 with his opener Harries to take his team to 100-4.
Further down the order Carwyn Evans was the only other batsman to get in and he chipped in with 28 but the visitors total of 161 looked well short of a winning score.
The Steelmen made light work of the job in hand despite losing an early wicket when Lee Williams was clean bowled by Arfon Jones and the hosts notched up a hundred runs in quick fashion thanks to the efforts of opener Gareth Davies and number three Craig Evans and the two of them managed to steer their team to a win with 20 overs in hand. Davies finished on 69 and his innings included two 6’s and seven 4’s and his partner Evans who just missed out on a ton struck 16 fours on his way to 91.
Llandysul 2nds also slumped to a heavy defeat after being put into bat. The hosts could only muster 108 before they were all out and in reply Briton Ferry Steel Reserves knocked off the runs without losing a wicket.
