In division one league cup winners Newcastle Emlyn suffered an Easter Monday hangover as they went down to a youthful Stars team by 2-0 and as a result the league runners up spot has been thrown wide open .Newcastle Emlyn never got going and to their credit they were full of praise for the Llanddewi villagers as they continue to establish themselves back in the top flight of the Costcutter league.

It took half an hour for the Stars to take the lead when Ian Hamilton in the Emlyn goal, who pulled off some outstanding saves, notably from Rupert Geddes and Ifan Thomas, made his only mistake of the afternoon as he failed to collect a harmless looking corner. Fifteen minutes after the break 16 year old Rupert Geddes turned on a sixpence on the edge of the box to drill home an excellent second goal which gave the diving Hamilton no chance. New Quay beat local rivals Aberaeron Reserves by 2-1 in a hard fought encounter. The opening quarter was a very tight affair but it was Aberaeron who opened the scoring but New Quay fought back and levelled matters when Anthony Conlon netted from a free kick.

The visitors were awarded a penalty late in the game when Nathan Davies was brought down inside the box but Charlie Dent who scored from the spot was made to retake the penalty after players had strayed into the box. Dent though made no mistake again with his second attempt and calmly stroked it into the bottom corner. Aberaeron had a great chance to equalise in the dying minutes through Robbie Evans but he was thwarted by a last ditch tackle by Jason Thomas and New Quay claimed the three points.

Division two champions Ffostrasol all but ended any hopes that Maesglas had of clinching promotion with a 8-2 hammering at Parc Troedrhiw. The Blues now have to hope that Pencader who have five games in hand over the Maes Radley side come unstuck in the last few weeks of the season.
