WINNING START FOR LLANDYSUL

South Wales Hockey League

Division 1

Carmarthen 1 Llandysul 2:

Llandysul made a positive start to the second half of their league campaign with an away win at neighbours Carmarthen.

The corresponding match earlier in the season was a very close encounter and this proved to be another tight battle with both defences being severely tested.

It was the Ceredigion side who made the initial breakthrough when an excellent pass out of defence by Gwenan Evans found midfielder Emma Jac Davies and she put Michelle Davies through down the right wing. Davies in turn slipped a pass through to Tracey Davies in the circle and she scored a fine opening goal.

Llandysul kept the pressure on but failed to convert their chances whilst their opponents played with a solid structure and hit back on the counter and kept the pressure on the Llandysul midfield and defence. Visiting midfielders Heledd Gwyndaf and player of the match Emma Jac Davies worked hard to re-gain possession and keep out the Carmarthen runners and they managed to stem the tide.

A second goal arrived for Llandysul following good work in midfield and the ball was released to Tracey Davies, who despite the attention of several defenders managed to produce an excellent cross which found young team mate Ellie Evans who scored with an accurate strike to make it 2-0 to the visitors. Carmarthen kept pressing but Llandysul’s defensive unit of Gwenan Evans, Kelly Davies and Gwyneth Ayers and goalkeeper Lleucu Ifans remained strong and they kept a clean sheet in the opening half.

This weekend Llandysul will entertain Rhondda at Ysgol Bro Teifi.
