Ceredigion Costcutter League
Division One
Newcastle Emlyn closed the gap on leaders St Dogmaels after they trounced Dewi Stars at Parc Emlyn by 14-0 and there were none better than sharpshooter Steve Thomas who bagged seven goals.
This weekend Owain Thomas and co take on Berriew in the fourth round of the Central Wales Cup and this represents a real opportunity for Thomas to test both the quality and potential of his side.
The honours were shared at Crannog where the hosts were held to a 2-2 draw. On target for the Llangrannog based team were Robbie Evans who poached a brace, a feat also achieved by Felinfach hot shot Rhys Jon James who scored two
The matches scheduled at Ffostrasol, Llandysul and Lampeter were called off.
Division Two
The race for the title in division two is beginning to hot up after leaders New Quay were held to a draw by Crannog Reserves and second placed Crymych increased the pressure with a convincing win over Ffostrasol Reserves.
The Preselimen are now just six points off the seasiders but have two games in hand and they look on course to secure promotion in their first ever season in the Costcutter League.
On target once again for Crymych was roving midfielder Llifon Howells who bagged two and there were singles for Sion Vaughan, Gethin Evans and Emyr Williams.
At Parc Arthur, Ollie Edwards fired home a couple of goals for league leaders New Quay but these were eventually cancelled out by Crannog striker Dan Robinson and the honours were shared.
St Dogmaels Reserves enjoyed an excellent win over Aberaeron Reserves at the School Field where former Cardigan Town striker Jack Thomas led the way with a couple of goals and there was one apiece for talented teen Elliot Wigley, Luke Jones and Osian Thomas. On target for Aberaeron were Lamin Manjang and Sean Thomas.
The game between Lampeter Reserves and Maesglas was called off.
Division Three
There were goals galore at Cae Dandre where Llanboidy and Llandysul shared a dozen goals and each one was scored by a different player. On target for the home team were Iolo Clement, Ben Harvey, Gethin Scourfield, Owain Gibin, Ifan Jones and Hefin Harries whilst for the Swallows Matthew Newbold, Scott Mayes, Huw Evans, Meurig Jones, Justin Elliott and Rhys Thomas netted.
There was a win also for Cardigan Town Reserves as they edged out Felinfach Reserves by 2-1. Dion James opened the Magpies account and Jack ‘Bara’ Wylde added a second just after half time but the milkmen came back when Kris Griffiths netted from a deflected shot. There was high drama late on when the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty but experienced goal keeper Joe Roscoe held his nerve and saved the spot kick much to the delight of his team mates.
