Ceredigion Costcutter League
Division One
Reigning champions St Dogmaels fired ten goals past Llanboidy but don’t be fooled by the score line as the Pembrokeshire side played well for long periods and were denied on several occasions by blocks and saves which on another day could well have ended in the net.
Llanboidy were just unlucky to have caught the Saints on a very good day when everything seemed to click and shots on goal found their target.
Powerful front runner Louis Harding led the goal charge with a well taken hat trick, midfielder Rhys Jones claimed a couple and there were singles for Adam Williams, Josh Mellor, Elliot Wigley and Tomos Rees.
It was a different story at Parc Troedrhiw where league leaders Cardigan were given a scare by Ffostrasol as they were 2-1 down with just five minutes to go. However a couple of late goals saved the day for the title challengers who head the table by three points with St Dogmaels in second place.
The Wanderers have not enjoyed much luck this season despite having played some decent football and once again they knocked the ball to feet very much like their opponents and they took the lead mid way through the opening half when Gwynfor Bown fired home from a free kick that went in off the woodwork.
Cardigan hit back with a goal from midfielder Dylan Davies on the half hour and there was very little in this game going into the final quarter.
Ffostrasol regained the lead with just under five minute to go when Dafydd Phillips took advantage of a mix up in the Magpies defence and looked to be hanging on for a superb win and they almost made it 3-1 when a cross from Phillips was headed just over the crossbar. If this had gone in it would have been all over but Cardigan pushed hard and the game was all square when John Lumb netted. A draw would still have been a decent result for the division strugglers but the Magpies who have some very experienced players amongst their ranks, kept their composure and the pressure told in the end as they stole the three points with almost the last kick of the game when Davies added his second.
Costcutter Division Two
Crymych made a successful league debut at Maes Radley by firing three goals past the Blues. The Preselimen who recently joined the Cardiganshire League were indebted to outfield player Owen Richards for donning the keeper gloves at the last minute and also to Osian Wyn for bagging a well taken brace. Also on target for the visitors was Gethin Evans whilst for Maesglas Marcus Dean netted a goal.
The match between Bargod Rangers and Lampeter Reserves was called off as Lampeter were unable to raise a side as was the game between St Dogmaels Reserves and Ffostrasol Reserves.
Costcutter Reserves League
Cardigan Reserves finally broke their duck with a narrow win over Llanboidy Reserves at the King George field. The Magpies had not played for over a month due to waterlogged pitches but they soon got into the swing and goals from Dion James and Jac Blackford helped seal their first win of the season. Ifan Jones was on target for the Cae Dandre men.
A goal from super veteran Andy Gordon helped steer Llandysul Reserves to a 2-1 success over Newcastle Emlyn Reserves. The midfield playmaker rolled back the years with some trademark passing to feet and was on hand to tuck away the winner after Dave Clark had claimed the opener. The reds replied through an own goal but the swallows hung on for a narrow win.
