J. Emrys Morgan Cup round up

St Dogmaels,Penparcau,Talybont, Crannog, Llanilar, Lampeter and Tregaron Turfs into the latter stages.

St Dogmaels moved menacingly into the latter stages of the J.Emrys Morgan Cup and on current form they look a serious bet to lift this prestigious trophy and make it a hat trick for the Costcutter League following in the footsteps of Llandysul in 2017 and Newcastle Emlyn earlier this year.

Peter Almond bagged two

The current league leaders went at the opposition from the off and had it not been for an inspired performance by the home keeper they would have been home and dry after half an hour with Peter Almond, Louis Harding and Adam Williams seeing shots well saved.

The Saints though continued to create chance after chance and a goal eventually arrived when from a pin point free kick from Williams front runner Almond who found the bottom corner with a deft header.

Just five minutes later Harding was set free on the left and he squared the ball across the six yard line for Almond to make it 2-0.

Aberaeron dug deep and tried their utmost to halt the onslaught but the visitors made it 3-0 on the hour mark when Harding netted with a lovely finish from just inside the penalty box.  Chris Morgan added the fourth from close range soon after and Saints continued to attack looking for more goals and were caught on the break when Aberaeron grabbed a late consolation effort in a rare attack on the Saints goal, in a match well refereed by Nigel Edwards.

Penparcau are another of the highly fancied sides in this competition and they will be eagerly awaiting the draw later this week after they comfortably disposed of Trewern by 6-1. Ben Holt led the way with a splendid hat trick and there were goals also for former Aberaeron favourite Mattie Davies, Andy Gittins and Jordan Perry.

Former winners Lampeter gained sweet revenge for a heavy defeat at the hands of Llandysul recently with an emphatic win over their local rivals. The north road men who lifted this prestigious trophy in 2014 went ahead on twenty minutes when Gethin Edwards headed home and his team doubled their lead soon after when front runner Gethin Hunter tapped home from close range.

Scott Davies all but killed the game off when headed in the third goal and the scoring was completed when Edwards added his second of the game with a screamer of a shot into the top corner of the net to make it 4-0. Lampeter though should probably have added a few more such was their dominance. The Swallows who had been on an impressive run of late, enjoyed several decent chances of their own and were denied a goal when a Dean Jones penalty was well saved.

Tregaron Turfs were forced to come back from a goal behind on two occasions before they managed to sneak through after extra time by 4-2. The Turfs managed to hit back after Penybont twice took the lead through goals from Scott Davies and Phil Ruell with Llyr Davies and Will Williams replying for the Ceredigion team to make it 2-2 at the end of normal time. However a wonder goal from Arwel Jones and a second of the match for Llyr Davies saw the Turfs through.

There were no such problems for Talybont as they cruised to a 7-0 victory over Four Crosses Reserves and Llanilar edged out Meifod by 2-1.

Cardigan Town, winners in 2015 were sent crashing out by Cambrian Tyres high fliers Padarn United for whom Paul Keegan bagged a brace. Others to score in this five goal rout were Tegid Owen,Dan Parry and Matt Higgs.

George Colven

Crannog who have reached the final of this prestigious competition on two occasions enjoyed a comfortable passage through after they accounted for Newcastle by 5-2 with in form striker George Colven bagging a well deserved hat trick. Marc Davies and Robbie Evans added the other goals to seal a comfortable win.

Two goals from debutant Ifan Phillips and one apiece for Bartoz Kasperski and Jac Griffiths helped Llanboidy secure a 4-1 success over Ffostrasol at Parc Troedrhiw. Gethin Davies was on target for The Wanderers with a penalty kick.

Cup holders Newcastle Emlyn could not make the long journey into Shropshire pay dividends as they went down 4-1 against Trefonen of the Montgomeryshire Amateur League.

Costcutter League round up.

In the only game played in division one of the Costcutter League Felinfach romped to a 9-1 victory over a severely depleted Bargod Rangers outfit but in the top of the table clash in division two, goals from Jonny Kinsella, Adam Betts, Michael King helped steer Aberporth to a 3-1 win over local rivals Maesglas following a very competitive affair. Marcus Dean was on target for the Blues.

A Guto Green goal proved sufficient to see Dewi Stars through for the three points on offer against New Quay and there was a win for St Dogmaels Reserves who defeated Ffostrasol Reserves by 2-1. Outstanding for the saints at the School Field was veteran keeper Carl Woodhouse. Justin Williams and Dom Williams provided the goals for the greens whilst for The Wanderers Steffan Rhys Evans was on target.

The honours were shared between Newcastle Emlyn Reserves and Llandysul Reserves following a 1-1 draw.
