ARKY CLOSE IN ON TURFS

Cambrian Tyres League

Division  1

League leaders Tregaron Turfs claimed the honours in the top of the table derby clash with neighbours Bont but in form Penparcau have moved up to join the division high fliers at the summit.

The visitors made the short journey to Tregaron looking to extend their unbeaten run but they were rocked back early when the Turfs scored straight from the off when Llyr Davies broke clear of the Bont defence to slot the ball under the body of goal keeper Trevor Jenkins.

Tregaron soon doubled their lead when five minutes later a powerful  Davies shot deflected in off a defender to leave Jenkins helpless and the poor start for the away side continued as Davies broke down the wing, and his cross cum shot went straight in at the back post and Bont were 3-0 down with just 20 minutes played.

The visitors finally settled into some sort of rhythm and began to string a few passes together and forced a succession of corners, and from one of these Garin Evans leapt higher than everyone else to head in from six yards

The Tangerines began to dominate but failed to turn this pressure into goals and at the other end the Turfs were awarded a penalty which was well saved by keeper Jenkins.

The game that had been rather feisty took a turn for the worse at the start of the second half when Bont were reduced to ten men following a red card to add injury to insult and Tregaron made the most of this advantage when Llyr Garner converted to restore the three goal advantage.

Bont to their credit kept working away and when Chris Wilkins was upended In the box, substitute Andrew Gilbert slotted the spot kick home and there was still time for the visitors to reduce the deficit. However the next goal came down the other end when Gareth Davies unleashed a fine effort from just outside the box and it flew into the top corner to seal a convincing win for the Turfs and a well deserved three points.

Penparcau, boosted by the recent signing of Mattie Davies joined the Turfs at the top of the table after they overcame the challenge of Padarn United.

Davies who last week joined from Aberaeron bagged a hat trick in his first run out for Arky and was a handful all afternoon as expected.

It was Penparcau who took the lead when Davies netted and they went two up when Mark Gornall hit the target. Padarn responded with a spot kick before Andrew Gittins fired home with a low drive to make it 3-1.Further goals followed later in the game through Davies who completed his hat trick and Anthony Evans.

Llanilar who tackle ‘Arky FC’ this weekend warmed up nicely with a 4-2 success over Penrhyncoch Reserves. In form sharp shooter Ryan Edwards was on target once again for Llanilar and there were goals also for Shon Morgans,Rhys Morgan and Dewi Evans.
