Cambrian Tyres league
Division One
Just a single point in their final match of the season will be enough to seal the league championship for Bont FC and close a campaign that has been very difficult.
The devastating loss of their manager Terry Davies back in February came as a huge blow but if they can steal a point against local rivals Tregaron Turfs they will surely dedicate their success to Davies who was a very popular football man.
Bont travelled to Cae Piod in a confident mood knowing full well that defeat against the long time leaders would have ended their title ambitions and the game started very cautiously with neither side wanting to give away the advantage. It was the visitors though who created the first few half chances before Bow Street took their opportunity to take the lead after a defensive mix up let in Shaun Jones to tap into an empty net after just 20 minutes.
At the other end Ben Lewis went close to levelling as did Andrew Carree but Bont couldn’t quite get the breakthrough but this all changed with ten minutes of the half remaining when the visitors were awarded a free kick. This was whipped into the box by Lee Jones who managed to catch the keeper out and he deflected the ball into the path of fellow centre half Sion Jones to tap in and equalise.
With 15 minutes remaining Bont started to apply the pressure and were camped in the Magpies half and created several chances with both Fergus Morris and Ben Lewis going close and they were eventually rewarded with a penalty.
Up stepped last week’s hat trick hero Carree but his spot kick sailed over the crossbar but Bont continued to press, forcing a succession of corners and with four minutes remaining a Ben Lewis corner was powerfully met by Lee Jones who leaped high above the Bow Street defence to score the most important goal of the season to keep the title hopes alive. The Tangerines are now three points ahead of their nearest rivals with one game to play.
Penparcau dominated the game from the start with good interlinking football through the midfielder Joe Duggan and the breakthrough came when Perry scored after only fifteen minutes and he bagged a brace soon after it following a lovely through ball by Duggan.
Aberdyfi started well from the kick off and seemed to get into a rhythm and played some smart football but not really pressuring the solid Penparcau back four and it was Duggan once again who managed to break an attack down and a pinpoint ball over the top picked out the diagonal run of Rhys Wynne Davies who turned his player on the edge of the box and sent the ball into the opposite top corner for a score of 3 – 0.
Within ten minutes of the restart the ball fell to youngster Ben Davies on the edge of the box and he fired home to make it 4-0 and game over.
In the second division trophy Llanilar lost out to Tywyn Bryncrug by 4-1.
