JAQUES SINKS BORTH

Spar mid Wales League

Division 1

Borth United 1 Aberaeron 6

With the snow and ice having decimated the local football programme this hastily rearranged match was played on the impressive 3G pitch at Park Avenue and in the freezing conditions both teams adapted well.

Aberaeron gave notice of their intentions as early as the fifth minute when a rasping shot from Mattie Davies was tipped over the crossbar by keeper Alex Pennock

The Seagulls in particular played some excellent football and hat trick hero Liam Jaques was very lively and was involved in most of the early exchanges. Chris Wilkins who was also a threat down the flank was able to put in some dangerous crosses which caused problems for Borth.

The visitors deservedly took the lead when Jaques scored with a left foot drive from the edge of the box but almost immediately after this, newly married Borth captain Sam Middleton was unlucky to see his 35 yard screamer clear the bar by inches and this was soon followed by another Crows attack when Ryan Davies squared the ball to Nick Jarvis and his snap shot was turned for a corner by Aeron keeper Barry Edwards.

The seagulls almost went two up when Elwyn Edwards played a great diagonal pass to Wilkins who then whipped in a dangerous cross behind the Borth defence but the danger was cleared.

However from a similar diagonal pass by Dan James, Wilkins picked up the ball and ran at the defence before delivering a pin point cross for James, who had sprinted 70 yards to get in the box, to tap home for two nil.

Aeron keeper Barry Edwards was forced into making a superb soon after this but his team went straight back down the other end and made it 3-0 when Jaques unleashed another super shot into the top corner giving keeper Pennock absolutely no chance.

Borth to their credit upped their game as the second half started but the threat was always apparent from the fast raiding Aberaeron forwards and Jaques scored with a fine finish to complete a well deserved hat trick and minutes later the ever alert Mattie Davies netted with a low shot after he had intercepted a back pass, to kill the game off.

Aberaeron brought on their substitutes for the final twenty minutes and this initially backfired when a mix up in the visitors defence allowed Marcin Matyja to round the keeper and score with a class finish.

Aeron though had the last word as youth player Ianto Evans scored with a last minute goal to give the his team a well deserved 6-1 success.
