Spar mid Wales League
Division 1
Bow Street 8 Kerry 1
Bow Street made a successful New Year return to league action with a comfortable win over Kerry at Cae Piod.
The Magpies dominated large parts of the opening half and were well worth their two goal lead at the break thanks to a couple of well taken penalties from Mark Gornall. Kerry hit back just after half time but Bow Street took control after this brief comeback and scored a further six goals in the second half without reply. Llion Jenkins hit the target with two excellent strikes and these were followed by another for Gornall to complete his hat trick.
Tom Evans also made the most of some generous defending with the sixth and there were two goals for returning substitute Ifan Burrell.
Kerry, to their credit carried on playing purposefully and Magpies custodian Ben Willis was forced into making two excellent saves before leaving the field with a slight injury. His replacement was defender Tomos Wyn Roberts who also made an excellent save to deny the visitors.
Aberaeron 2 Borth United 0
Aberaeron returned to winning ways after Knighton ended their long unbeaten run last weekend. The black and ambers made the most of the lovely Saturday afternoon sunshine to spray the ball about the park and conjure up a well deserved 2-0 success.
The Seagulls then doubled their lead with just five minutes remaining of the half when Chris Wilkins scored with a header from a corner kick to put his team in at the break in a commanding position.
Borth opened the second half with positive intent in an attempt to reduce the deficit and they were very unlucky to see a Clive Morgan shot bounce to safety off the post and Ryan Edwards was also denied when his low shot sailed just inches wide of the post. Generally though the solid Aberaeron defence coped well with the visiting forward attacks and Aeron saw the game out without any real worries late on.
