Costcutter League round up
Division 1
St Dogmaels moved to within four points of league leaders Lampeter following a 5-3 win over arch rivals Cardigan Town and there is a growing optimism at the School Field that the greens could be strong enough this season to lift the title.
Steve Williams and his men have enjoyed a successful run over the past two months and despite a superb effort from a young Magpies team they were well worth their win in this excellent football match played in very difficult conditions.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring after only ten minutes when Jack Thomas found himself free on the right and he slotted home from just inside the box. The saints then went close at the other end before Rhys Jones broke through down the right flank and he squared the ball to Louis Harding who tapped in from close range. Town though hit back and regained the lead from a Ben Davies spot kick but the game was all square the break after Adam Williams had also scored from the spot
Manager Williams brought on three subs after the interval and his team began to dominate and veteran super sub Ioan Owen put the greens ahead with a half volley and soon afterwards Pete Almond scored his first goal on his return to the Saints from a corner to make it 4-2. Cardigan to their credit hit back when Davies scored his second from a sweetly struck free kick from outside the box to make it very interesting at 4-3 but with a minute to go Adam Williams made it 5-3 from the spot once again to seal the victory.
Llandysul returned from Cae Sgwar with three points in the bag following a physical and at times niggle affair but the reigning league champions were made to work very hard by Aeron reserves and had to come from a goal behind. It was the introduction of striker Simon Davies in the second half which turned this game as he netted twice. Others on target for the Swallows were Josh Baker with a powerful shot ,Sion Mason-Evans, Josh Hastie with a tap in and Scott Jones.
Division Two
The honours were shared in the local derby match between Bargod Rangers and Newcastle Emlyn Reserves. The reds took the lead with just 20 minutes to go when Joe Rees netted but Rangers hit back with goals in quick succession from Dan Evans and an own goal before Ashley Stevens equalised late on.
Llanboidy enjoyed a comfortable 8-0 win over Lampeter Reserves with the goals shared across the team. Midfielder Rhys Jenkins bagged a brace and there was a goal apiece for Chris Bowen, Chris Court, Ross McDonald,Celt Jones, Luke Davies and Dafydd Makepeace.
Maesglas were held to a draw away at Crannog Reserves and the points were also shared between Llandysul Reserves and Aberporth.
