Division 1 west
Crymych 7 Dunvant 38
The league leaders were just too good on the day for an under strength Crymych team at Parc Lloyd Thomas and they ran out worthy winners by six tries to one.
The Preselimen who were forced to dig deeply into their second team resources were rocked by a lucky try after just six minutes when flanker Ben Davies went over. Crymych scrum half Dafydd Phillips saw a long pass to his half back partner bounce off visiting prop Connor Bucket and Davies was in the real place at the right time to pounce. This was converted by wing Sam Evans and the score was doubled just a few minutes later when scrum half Ben Ley crossed for a try once again converted by Evans.
Second row Gethin John added the third touchdown on the half hour mark albeit against the run of play as Crymych had been enjoying a purple patch and they didn’t deserve to be 19-0 down at the break as they were well in this game even though their scrum was creaking.
Well directed by the likes of young inside half Phillips the hosts took the game to the opposition in the first half hour but some crucial turnovers and sloppy handling combined with some inaccurate kicking cost them at times and the promotion favourites took their chances well.
But as Dunvant dominated there were further tries by Danny Davies on the hour and Sam Evans with just three minutes to go with Evans showing some deft footballing skills and he converted both of these to complete an convincing victory which leaves Crymych firmly rooted at the foot of the table.
Next up for Crymych is a trip to Aberystwyth a week on Saturday and coach Neil Machin will be hoping to get some of his players back as he was forced to field a weakened side with a sprinkling of second and youth team players and it was a huge ask against quality opposition.
