Spar Mid Wales League Division 1
Aberaeron bounced back with a win following two defeats, Bow Street were held to a draw but there was no joy for Borth United who were well beaten by Llandrindod Wells.
Carno 2 Aberaeron 6
Aberaeron arrived at Carno on the back of two tough defeats and to a place that has never been a happy hunting ground but they put this all behind them and came up trumps.
As the half was drawing to a close, Aberaeron dropped their intensity and were cruelly punished when they needlessly lost possession and Carno levelled at 2-2.
Aberaeron upped the tempo after the break and dominated for long periods and hit back with four unanswered goals for a superb win. Matty Davies added a second, Chris Wilkins returned a poor goal kick with a shot from 40 yards into an empty net- an early contender for goal of the season and Dan James who had an imperious afternoon scored from a scramble when the home keeper saved well initially only to spill the ball for a soft goal. Mikey Gornall capped off a fine display by also getting on the score sheet.
A super performance by Ollie Fairbrother who is only 17 and excellent all round show from the seagulls.
Borth United 0 Llandrindod Wells 3
With the morning rain taking its toll on the Uppingham Fields playing surface the match was hastily switched to Park Avenue in Aberystwyth and even though the rain fell heavily throughout the match both teams did their best to adapt to the wet conditions and generally neither goalkeeper was unduly troubled as the ball zipped off the greasy surface.
The visitors took the lead on forty minutes when Kieran McCarley sprang the offside trap and slid the ball passed keeper Jamie Evans and they doubled their score within a few five minutes when Kejan Foryszewski scored via a slight deflection passed Evans to leave the Crows with a 0-2 deficit at the interval.
To their credit Borth attacked in numbers as the second half progressed and the introduction of Ryan Davies and Daniel Hopton to bolster the forward line did give hope of reducing Llandrindod’s lead but generally the visitors defence coped well to deny any of Borth’s half chances and in the final minutes the visitors made it 0-3 when Michael Watkins scored with a cool finish at the near post.
Churchstoke 1 Bow Street 1
Bow Street went in search of a win double following a 4-1 success against the same opposition recently but it was not to be as the honours were eventually shared with Mark Gornall on target from the penalty spot for the Magpies.
