Division 1 West
Dunvant 36 Crymych 22
Three tries conceded within the opening half hour proved to be decisive as despite a superb fightback the Preselimen left themselves far too much to do in this entertaining game.
Five minutes later with the home side pressing hard in front of the posts Dunvant took a quick tap penalty and Gregory powered his way over for his second try. Crymych gradually got back into the game after their shaky start under new coach Randall Williams but Dunvant hit them with a third try on the half hour mark when No 8 Jordan Jackson sprinted over the whitewash to increase the lead to 17-0.
The visitors finally got on the scoreboard when they were awarded a penalty on the 22 metre line and young outside half Ifan Phillips slotted it over to make it 17-3 at the break.
Crymych though refused to throw the towel in and they hit back with some decent phases through the likes of number eight Guto Davies, scrum half Rhys Davies, hooker Zac France-Miller and centre Carwyn Phillips but they were hit again with another try when replacement scrum half Gareth Davies took a quick tap and dived over to score to make it 29-3.
Crymych though in true Preseli fashion kept going, prompted by second row and captain Rhys Davies and they dominated the remainder of the game and reduced the deficit when outside centre Phillips scored a try which was converted by Ifan Phillips to take the score to 36-15 and within a minute replacement Jake Jenkins added another try and his conversion brought the visitors back to 36-22 and within sight of a try and losing bonus point.
Crymych battered away at the Dunvant try line but some resilient defending kept them out and the home team were well worth their win 36-22 in the end.
