MUST WIN FOR EMLYN AND CRYMYCH

LOCAL RUGBY PREVIEW.

WRU Championship

Newcastle Emlyn face Glynneath tomorrow afternoon at Ddol Wiber and they will be determined to stop the rot and get back to winning. One success from four starts has been a very disappointing return and a gap has already opened up between the top six and the rest of the teams in the WRU Championship.

The red and whites are currently in the relegation zone just above their opponents from the Neath valley and this really is a must win game for Marc Lloyd and his men. Emlyn hope to welcome back skipper Alex Williams from injury and his presence will be a big plus for his team.

Divisions West

In Division one west Crymych are in a similar predicament and need a win this weekend against visitors Llanelli Wanderers. The Preselimen are currently holding up the table without a point although the Wanderers are just above them with just one point to their name and skipper Rhys Davies and his men will be hoping to break their duck.

Aberystwyth in contrast have made a decent start to the campaign with three wins from four and they will travel south to Tenby in a confident mood as they are in good form and not giving soft tries away as they did towards the end of last season.

Llanybydder have had to recover quickly following a battering at the hands of division two leaders Whitland last time out but Richard Davies and his team will quietly fancy their chances of getting something out of their match with St Clears if the bulk of their squad is available. The saints have struggled in their new division following promotion and have been on the end of two heavy defeats.

Fishguard who were edged out by Loughor last weekend take on Yr Hendy.

Aberaeron bounced back with a convincing win in division 3 west A and they too travel south to take on the Pembrokeshire All Blacks who are yet to register a win apart from a WRU Bowl success against Llandovery 2nds. Neyland are tough to beat at home, just ask Cardigan RFC, as defeat at Johns Street last October probably cost them promotion.

Tregaron are also on the road and have a tough challenge as they face a Pembroke side that have started well and who will no doubt be one of the front runners for the title this time around.

Lampeter sit proudly at the top of division 3 B with a perfect record after three starts, as do their opponents Bynea, but with home advantage the Ceredigion side will be confident of doing the business at their north road ground.

WRU Bowl

Cardigan play their re arranged WRU Bowl match tomorrow at Ferryside and travel with a much stronger and more experienced team than they have fielded in recent weeks. They have powerful ball carriers in Gethin Jones, Will Brice, Rob Connolly and Colin Davies up front, some promising young talent behind and a decent bench and this should be a very interesting contest. The reward for Cardigan should they come through for a win is a home tie against local rivals Crymych 2nds.

WRU Conference

In the WRU Conference Dreigiau Emlyn travel to play Narberth 2nds and hopefully the Otters will have a few more players than when they took on Crymych 2nds a few weeks ago. The Preselimen sportingly provided Narberth with eight players that afternoon just to fulfil the fixture and this was a tremendous gesture and very much appreciated by their Pembrokeshire rivals.

Crymych 2nds are also in action as they lock horns with Llandovery 2nds at Parc Lloyd Thomas.

Welsh Youth Cup

Crymych Youth who enjoyed an excellent run in the competition last year before they were knocked out in the semi final face Narberth. Lampeter Youth are away at Whitland and Fishguard & Goodwick take on Llandovery.
