DAFYDD GETS GB CALL

QUAD BIKE RACING.

Quad bike champion Dafydd Davies of Ponthirwaun near Cardigan has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Quad Cross of Nations Event in Italy later this month writes Anwen Francis.

The 18 year old, who is three times Welsh Champion, twice ORPA British Champion, the ACU British Club Man Champion and who is currently leading the ACU Under 21 British Championship is the youngest and only competitor from Wales to be selected.

Dafydd, who will face 90 foot jumps and a technical section on a very challenging and demanding course in Italy said: “I’m chuffed and honoured to have been selected. I really didn’t expect it. I had a phone call from the team manager and I’m really looking forward to the event.”

His mother Carol is overjoyed, and can’t wait to support her son who will compete against 36 other countries from across the globe.

“I can’t quite believe it, there are so many good boys out there and for someone from this rural area to get selected is a very proud moment especially as we don’t have any sponsorship,” said Carol.

2017 has been a memorable year for the Davies family who compete internationally on the quad circuit. Father Ed has just been crowned British Masters Champion for the fifth year in succession; Dafydd’s fate in the Pro Class remains undecided as yet following a technical issue over the weekend but was third going into the race; 15 year old Catrin has finished second in the British 250 Championship and 11 year old Aled has finished in fourth position on his 100cc bike against other quad riders on their 150cc’s.

The family has competed in over 20 events this year including taking part in the Nora MX seven round championship. They also travelled to France in August to the Pont De Vaux 12 Hour Mondial Quad competition in the south of France. With soaring temperatures of 42 degrees, the quad bike riders found it challenging, but the results kept coming.

Catrin took part in the Kids Race with three 15 minutes races against 35 other competitors finishing sixth overall and first in the ladies, with Dafydd finishing in 35^th position out of 114 competitors as his team member had an accident and they missed 11 laps.

After Italy, the family will head to Kent to compete in the last round of the Pro British Championships at the beginning of October.
