BONT BOUNCE BACK

Cambrian Tyres League round up.

Division 1

Bont bounced back after a painful defeat to local rivals Tregaron Turfs with a 5-2 home win over Penrhyncoch Reserves.

The hosts though were made to work hard for this success and found themselves a goal down after ten minutes when Kyle Chillery caught Bont keeper Trevor Jenkins off his line and scored from all of 45 yards. The home side responded when good work from Owen Evans found Tristan Jenkins to head home for his first goal since joining from Bow Street and ten minutes later Bont grabbed another after a cross was headed in to his own goal by defender Andrew Wintle.

The visitors deservedly levelled matters again 15 minutes into the second half when Mike Price tapped in from just six yards after being left unmarked by the Bont defence. The reigning champions pushed on and retook the lead on the hour when centre back Sion Jones started and finished a flowing, one touch move with three other teammates, to calmly chip the keeper from distance for his first goal of the season.

Just minutes after this it was 4-2 as good work from the returning Ben Lewis saw Llion Jones tap in from close range and with five minutes remaining front runner Lee Jones unleashed an unstoppable thunderbolt from the edge of the box and into the top corner to put the game beyond any doubt.

Third placed side Bow Street Reserves were held to a 1-1 draw by Llanilar where Sion Jones poached a goal for the hosts. Gethin ap Dafydd was on target for the Magpies with a low shot into the corner of the net.

Division 2

Penparcau travelled to Llanon in a confident mood following their fine win the previous weekend and they started positively and moved the ball about crisply and within eight minutes Jake Bush set up Lee Morgan with a pin point pass to fire home from 30 yards, his shot looping the ball over the keeper. Llanon responded positively and moved up a gear and tested the visitors defence and they eventually levelled the score.

This seemed to be just what was needed for Penparcau as they stepped up their work rate and on the half hour mark a lovely ball from Gareth Lewis through to Warren Sedgwick allowed the experienced campaigner to cleverly chip the out rushing keeper to make it 2 – 1.

After the break Llanon started sharply and caught their opponents cold with a lovely in swinging ball to their centre forward who made it all square at 2-2. Penparcau made some changes going into the final quarter and brought on talented youngster Rhys Davies who caused the Llanon defence problems and he earned a free kick on the edge of the box.

This gave Sedgewick the opportunity to nail the three points and he didn’t disappoint with a curler of a shot into the back of the net. One final change for Penparcau resulted in the killer punch when the experienced former Welsh International Andy Evans fired home the fourth goal with a powerful header.

Padarn United looked dead and buried at 3-1 down against Dolgellau Reserves. However a superb fight back saw them turn the match on its head thanks to a timely hat trick from Paul James and a brace from Jason Davies.

Llanilar Reserves enjoyed a 4-1 win over Aberdyfi with goals from Aled Rumble, Leon Millward with two and Sion Gittings whilst Machynlleth Reserves collected their second win of the new season after they overcame the challenge of Talybont by 3-2.
