A sensational batting performance by Llechryd opener John Curran in the baking hot sun helped steer his team to a comfortable win over Whitland 2nds in division two of the Pembroke County Cricket League.
Curran who hit a club record of 204 not out in his previous match got stuck into the opposition from the very first over and hit 84 in boundaries including 12 fours and 6 sixes in a personal tally of 109 not out. Llechryd are well off the race for promotion at this stage but If Curran, who has only just started back following a football injury can maintain this sort of form anything is possible.
The Borderers who were well served by Gethin Scourfield 40, James Thomas 35, Paul Oeppen 17 and Jack Bowen who was 29 not out reached a total of 153-6 but they struggled against some very accurate bowling with none better than veteran left armer Peter Betterley who returned impressive figures of 2 for 5 in 12 overs with ten of these maidens.
Maesglas FC goal keeper Graham Keen displayed his all round skills with 4-32 and the Whitland total always look well short on what was a beautiful batting strip.
Curran and his opening partner Dewi Davies took very little time to get going and the boundaries flowed with Curran in particular letting loose with some powerful cuts and drives and some big hits over the ropes.
The pair put on a century stand within 20 overs and they coasted home with 16 overs to spare with Davies undefeated on 43 and Curran carrying his bat for a delightful knock of 109

Another big knock from Richard Thorne guided Crymych to an eight wicket victory over Pembroke. Thorne top scored with 76 not out but there were useful contributions from Ioan Davies with 24 and Dafydd Wright who also made 24.
Facing a target of 149 the Preselimen chased down the runs comfortably for the loss of only two wickets. All rounder Williams was also impressive with the ball in hand and returned figures of 2-27, Alan Luke bowled superb line and length and captured two wickets for just nine runs and Ioan Davies also picked up a couple of wickets.
