Division 2
Llechryd made a positive start to the new season with a 93 run win over Carew 2nds in the Pembroke County Cricket League Division Two opener at Castell Malgwyn.
Experienced all rounder Steve Smith led by example with a fine knock of 45 and opener Johnnie Lewis (pic above) was also in good nick and made 41 and he was ably assisted by Ollie Roberts who scored 18, and the villagers ended their innings on 171-6.
Dai Rees was the pick of the Carew bowlers and picked up four wickets, Kerry Waters and Harry Cook were the other Carew wicket-takers as the home side batted through all their 45 overs.
The visitors struggled from the start with veteran left arm seamer Peter Betterley picking up four wickets for just 17 runs and he was helped by some tight bowling from Graham Keen 1 for 22, Johnny Lewis 2 for 23 and Leighton O’Connor also impressed on his debut by taking three wickets.
All rounder Rees with 49 not out and Finn Bowie with ten were the only batters to reach double figures and Carew were eventually skittled out for 78 and Llechryd banked 29 points.
Division 4.
Llechryd 2nds were unable to emulate their first team as they fell to an eight wicket defeat against local rivals Crymych at Glandycross. The visitors made a decent start with Luke Palmer 18, Colin Phillips 16 and Sam Everton 22 chipping in but they were eventually all out for 97. Marc Thomas was the pick of the Preseli bowlers with 3-5 and namesake Andrew Thomas also impressed with 3-9 and there were wickets also for Elir George and Steff Williams.
Crymych got off to a poor start in reply when prolific scorer Richard Thorne was out caught behind off the very first ball but Rhodri Thomas with 11 and Ioan Davies with 22 steadied the ship before all rounder Marc Thomas waded in with a brisk 61 not out to win the game for the hosts and help secure 28 points for his team.
