LLANDYSUL ALMOST HOME

Llandysul, fresh from their semi-final success in the J.Emrys Morgan Cup moved within three points of sewing up the league championship with a comfortable 4-1 win over Bargod Rangers.

Manager Chris Coco Davies rested a few players from the midweek match at Newtown and gave a start to Andrew Evans , Daniel Williams & Matthew Newbold and it was the latter who was hugely influential.

It was Rangers though who drew first blood when Jack Fisher was on target with a superbly struck free kick and he and his side played some good football for the reminder of the half belying their lowly position in the league.

Llandysul though upped the tempo after the break and scored two goals in quick succession through Newbold with a couple of well taken headers. Centre half Dean Jones added his 17th and 18th goals of the season in all competitions to wrap up another three points for his team and complete an excellent comeback to keep the unbeaten Llandysul run going and also pass the 100 goals scored for the season.

A win for Llandysul this weekend at Parc Tir Y Dref against Aberaeron Reserves will secure them the title for the first time in 68 years.

Cup finalists Crannog came from behind to secure a draw at Parc Y Dre against a Cilgerran side that were superb on the day.

The visitors were missing a few players, some with an eye on the Easter Monday Cup final and they were given a tough time in the opening half with keeper Rhydian Morgan pulling off a series of fine saves whilst at the other end Cilgerran defended well in numbers and looked dangerous on the counter and went ahead when Louis Harding struck midway through the second half after he coolly rounded keeper Morgan and slotted the ball home.

Crannog stepped it up after this and put Rovers under pressure but again they defended well and went further ahead after gaining a corner from another counter, with Dai Williams heading powerfully to make it 2-0 and what looked like game over.

However to their credit, Crannog kept going and minutes later, Mike Glover followed up a free kick and took full advantage of a fumble by the Cilgerran keeper to score and give his team some hope.

With just four minutes left, Mathew Smith smashed home a volley from the edge of the box after a corner to grab the equaliser and Crannog looked like grabbing a winner but they could not quite find the killer pass to make their dominance count. Full credit though to Cilgerran who were superb on the day and a point a fair result in the end.

The Cwpan Day Dynamo quarter final tie between St Dogmaels and Newcastle Emlyn was abandoned following a serious leg injury to Saints player Chris Jones. It was later confirmed that the popular midfielder had suffered a broken fibula but did not require an operation. All sports followers will wish him all the best in his recovery.
