Cardigan brought the curtain down on their league season with an easy win over Pembroke Dock Quins and over a century of points as they ran in tries for fun but the Cardi’s suffered a big blow when outstanding back rower Colin Davies was forced to leave the field with a serious shoulder and rib injury and this will rule him out of the Pembrokeshire Cup semi-final this Saturday against Aberystwyth.
Davies was in the thick of the action throughout this one-sided contest and many supporters drifted away well before the end of this match that descended into a farce and it was a sad sight to see a team that not so long ago were a match for any in the division.
Coach Ossie Boswell has endured a difficult season and has been forced to call off a number of matches with not enough players available and the Quins like a few other teams in the basement of division three face a difficult few years. The former Quins second row travelled to the King George with just fourteen players and some of these had been begged and borrowed from other clubs.
Cardigan made their intentions clear from the start and they were 40-0 ahead at the break with the game well over as a contest. Centre Emyr Harries opened the home account and completed his hat trick by half time, whilst full back Alun Jenkins and centre Sion Hughes also claimed tries and all five of these touchdowns were converted by returning scrum half Luke Rogers.
Rogers crossed for a try himself after the break and further scores came via Emyr Harries who secured his fourth, tight head prop Ben Hughes, replacement centre Llyr Edwards, winger Rhydian Jenkins who bagged a brace as did full back Alun Jenkins and Rogers, who also slotted over 12 conversions whilst replacement prop Luke Palmer-Davies added to the pantomime with a conversion.
