Cardiganshire Short Mat Bowling Association League.
Rhydlewis have pulled away at the top of the league with long time title rivals Manordeifi having fallen away to third place below Aberporth.
The leaders are now ten points ahead of their nearest challengers but they face rivals Manordeifi this week and this result may well decide the destiny of the league championship silverware this season.
League round up.
Match report: Tygwydd 6 – Orllwyn 2
Starting with the triples and rinks, Tygwydd took a 4 – 0 lead at the halfway point, with Islwyn’s foursome going on to win 13 – 9, and Brian skipping his trio to a comfortable 14 – 4 score line, thanks to a 5 on the 7th end.
In the second half, Bruce and Rosemary, fresh from playing in the triples, were both drawn out of the hat to play their first ever singles matches. At 3 all after 4 ends. Rosemary then made a huge dent in Tygwydd’s chalk reserve with toucher after toucher, and took 9 shots over the next 4 ends, including a 4 on the 5th end. Bruce took 3 on the 9th end but was unable to stop a beaming Rosemary from running out the victress by 14 – 8.
Delyth and David took the spoils in the pairs, overcoming Doreen and Carol by 11 – 4.
Match report: Dolphins 2 – Tygwydd 6
In the pairs, the Dolphins E-Team of Edith and Eileen played the home mat to perfection. Eileen capitalised on her partner’s opening shots with a number of inch perfect draws to lead 13 – 0 after 8 ends. Tygwydd started the fight back with a single on the 9th, but Dolphins moved up a gear to run out 17 – 2 winners.
The triples followed a similar vein to the pairs, with some fine team work, taking Tygwydd to a 17 – 3 winning margin.
Nip and tuck, cat and mouse, call it what you like, the rinks went right down to the wire. 5 all after 9 ends, Tygwydd were holding 5, but with an exposed jack beckoning Jean, her last wood pulled up agonisingly short, handing victory to Islwyn.
Match report: Caerwedros 6 – Manordeifi 2
The home captain was delighted to finally get a few points on the board after a recent run of poor results.
Match report: Llechryd 6 – Manordeifi 2
In the singles, Llechryd gradually pulled away with each end to lead by 10 – 3 by the 8th end. Penrhiwllan played well, and had some good shots, but couldn’t stem the flow leading to a result of 15 – 7.
In the pairs, Llechryd took the first two ends but Penrhiwllan came back to lead 8 – 5 by the 8th end; Llechryd’s skip playing particularly well. Although the last few ends were nip and tuck, Llechryd couldn’t quite make the final shots that they needed to win.
In the rinks, Penrhiwllan took the first 3 ends to lead by 7. Llechryd took a 5 on the next end and then pulled away so that Penrhiwllan needed to score 4 on the last end to draw. A valiant effort only afforded them 1 point, leaving Llechryd the victors at 11 – 8.
