RISING QUAD BIKE STAR

A weekend away at the Oxford Belfrey Hotel was one to remember for the Davies family of Ponthirwaun near Cardigan when they were presented with the Family of the Year Award for their achievements in the quad bike racing world. The family of five are well known in the quad bike racing scene and returned to Wales with a total of seven trophies. By Anwen Francis

“People were pulling our legs all night because Wales had lost at the rugby and we replied by saying we had made up for it in the quad world,” laughed mother of three Carol who is very supportive of her family’s quad bike racing success.

Dafydd, age 17 was awarded a trophy for coming first in the Pro-Am class. He was also awarded the Mark Watson Memorial Award for his enthusiasm in the quad bike world. His sister, 14 year old sister, Catrin came second in the 250cc Modified class, with Aled (11) winning the 100cc Auto Championship and was presented with the Rising Star Award. But the string of successes doesn’t end there, as their father Ed, won the Masters Championship class for the fourth time running.

“It’s an amazing achievement for the whole family to come home with so many trophies and we are over the moon,” added Carol. “Presentation awards such as these helps to put our children on the map. Ed does well, but he wants the children to be recognised for their success too.”

The family are now preparing for the 2017 season and practice at Kidderminster and Somerset as there are no suitable tracks in this area or indeed Wales. The competitions will start in Ireland on April 1 when Dafydd will compete in the Professional class. They will then travel to Cornwall, Swindon, Ipswich, Cumbria and then head to the World Championships in France mid August.
