MAGPIES SWOOP LATE ON

Costcutter League round up.

Reigning Costcutter champions Cardigan Town came from two goals down to defeat arch rivals St Dogmaels at the School Field with Ewan Jones the hero of the day for Town. The Magpies were outplayed for the opening hour but they finished very strongly and their young side showed a great deal of character to bounce back as the saints ran out of steam very much in the way they did on Boxing Day when they also lost to their neighbours.

The Saints played some splendid football from the off and went two goals up thanks to the combination of Chris and Rhys Jones who bagged a goal apiece and they should have been further ahead at the break as they missed a couple of very good chances and Town keeper Carl Woodhouse pulled off two brilliant saves. John Midgley and Chris Morgan were presented with further chances after the break but Cardigan rode their luck and they hit back when Ewan Jones netted. In form striker Jones then made it 2-2 when he fired home from close range before skipper Iestyn Evans grabbed the winner late on with a fine strike much to the delight of his team mates with the saints left scratching their heads as to how this one got away.

Lampeter enjoyed a 2-0 win over Cilgerran with Scott Davies bagging a brace of goals for his team whilst at Newcastle Emlyn the reds were comfortable winners over Aberaeron Reserves by 3-0. Former Bargod Rangers striker Robbie Jenkins was on target for the Parc Emlyn side as was Peter Almond who fired home twice to seal the win.

New Quay enjoyed their third win of the season when they defeated relegation strugglers Felinfach and the battle at the bottom looks a very close call with four teams in the mix. Charlie Dent, Charles Harvey, Ryan Beauchamp and Craig Hyatt were the Quay scorers.

Division two leaders Maesglas managed to come away with a hard fought 3-2 win at a very windy Aberporth. Billy Myers put the blues ahead before Jonny Kinsell made the most of a mistake in defence to tap home. The visitors regained the lead when a Dan Jones long distance effort found its way into the net via a deflection and a third goal by Joe Howe wrapped things up. Kinsella added his second late on but the Blues hung on for the three points.

Goals from Gethin Davies, Carwyn Morgan and Dion Phillips earned Ffostrasol a 3-1 win over Llanboidy with Caleb Young on target for the Cae Dandre men. There was also an easy win for Pencader who fired seven past SDUC with Liam Gordon helping himself to six of these. Owen Broom scored the other goal.

In the Reserves Cup two goals from Jake Kelly earned Bargod Rangers a 2-2 draw with Lampeter Reserves and a Dan Robinson goal helped steer Crannog to a 1-1 draw against Newcastle Emlyn Reserves.
