Cardiganshire Short Mat Bowling Association League
Manordeifi are the new leaders at the top of the Cardiganshire short mat league after they secured two wins in the week to leapfrog previous leaders Rhydlewis.
Tygwydd 5 – Manordeifi 3
This was a re-scheduled game from before Christmas.
The home team played well in both the triples and fours to secure solid wins, comfortably outbowling the visitors. In the second half of the match, Steve Reynolds won the singles game for Manordeifi and in a nail-biting finish, the pairs ended as a draw.
Manordeifi 7 – Tygwydd 1
This was the return match with Manordeifi welcoming Tygwydd for a second encounter in the same week.
Manordeifi. Steve Reynolds overcame the challenge of Darren Davies in the singles and went on to take the two points for a win. The home pair of Marlene Davies and Paul Edwards took control from the start in the pairs and never let the visitors really get going.
The triples looked as though it was all going Manordeifi’s way, but defeat the visitors fought back to earn a solid draw. The fours was a well-fought contest, with Manordeifi holding on for a win.
Llechryd 3 – Rhydlewis 5
After six ends of the pairs game, the honours were shared with the score at 5 all. The two teams each took one of the next two ends, but Mydroilyn pulled away to win the game by 4 shots.
It was level pegging at 2 all on the third end of the triples, with Mydroilyn taking the next end to lead by 2 shots. Llechryd took a 4 on the 6th end to re-take the lead, going on to lead by 8 – 7 by the ninth end. In the final end, it was down to the last bowl from Llechryd to take the points.
Llechryd took an early lead in the fours and were 5 – 0 up by the fourth end. Mydroilyn fought back to within 2 shots but couldn’t score again, so a comfortable win for Llechryd.
