ABERYSTWYTH CRASH OUT

JD Welsh Cup Fourth Round

Aberystwyth Town 1 Prestatyn Town 5

A second half hat-trick from Prestatyn striker James Stead crowned a comfortable win for his side at Park Avenue.

Stead struck three times in close succession to knock the stuffing out of the seasiders who were sent crashing out of the JD Welsh Cup by the Cymru Alliance outfit.

There were plenty of chances in the opening quarter with home keeper Chris Mullock making a super save to deny a Mike Parker header and at the other end

Chris Jones went close when he tried to steer home a Cledan Davies cross. Luke Borrelli also went close when a fired a shot just wide, and Stead set up Jack Kenny but his header failed to trouble Mullock.

The closest the hosts came to scoring was when Chris Jones got on to the end of a cross by Scotcher but he was denied by Prestatyn keeper Carl Jones.

The deadlock was broken on 35 minutes in an unfortunate manner when keeper Mullock slid the ball to defender Sam Rodon and he then misjudged his back pass to the custodian and the ball rolled into an empty net to give the visitors the lead. Three minutes before the break good work by Jack Kenny saw the ball break for Noah Edwards, and he smashed home a second to stun the home supporters.

Ten minutes into the second half Stead claimed the first of his three and very soon afterwards the same player beat the offside trap and curled the ball home to make it 4-0. Luke Sherbon pulled a goal back for Aber before Stead completed his hat trick to seal a well deserved victory for his team. (Great photos by Chris Howells.)

This weekend the Black and Greens will be looking to bounce back when they take on Airbus UK Broughton in the Play Off Conference. (ko 2pm).
