FOUR GOAL ALMOND THE EMLYN HERO
Newcastle Emlyn ended the unbeaten run of Cambrian Tyres Division one leaders Bont after they produced their best display of the season with none better for them than four goal hero Peter Almond.The reds who dominated large periods of this game were still forced to come from behind after conceding a couple of goals in quick succession, both of these from free kicks.
With the half almost over Almond rescued the situation with his second of the game to set up an intriguing second half with the match very much in the balance.The worsening weather conditions made life very difficult as the pitch tore up but to their credit both teams tried to keep the ball down and it was Emlyn who scored next when Almond completed his hat trick when he headed home from close range.
Bont though were not finished and came back strongly and keeper Ian Hamilton was called into action to deny the visitors on a number of occasions.With just ten minutes to go Dan Davies, who was superb throughout crossed for Almond to nod the ball into the goal to clinch the win.
A ten man Aberporth team enjoyed a narrow 2-1 win over Aberdyfi after a great display with their understrength team pulling together for the cause. It was the airmen who dominated proceedings early on and they went ahead when Daniel Davies slipped past two defenders and chipped the keeper with his left foot for a superb finish.
Jonny Kinsella scored the second goal for Aberporth five minutes after the break following another good shot which flew into the bottom corner of the net. Aberdyfi pulled one back in injury time after a deflected shot beat keeper Liam Woolley but it was the home team who went through for a deserved win.
Lampeter were forced to work hard against a battling Llanboidy side before they eventually came through for a well-deserved 4-2 success in the second round of the League Cup. The north road men took the lead early on when Steven Lovell whipped in a fine cross towards Luke Lovell who squared for Gethin Hunter to slot home. The lead was soon doubled after Scott Davies ran through on goal and tucked the ball home to make it 2-0.
Llanboidy came back into the game and played some good football in the difficult slippery conditions credit and fought back to 2-2 with two quick goals. The first of these came from a mistake from the keeper as he failed to catch a cross and the ball slipped from his grasp and allowed Llanboidy striker Declan Harries to pounce and score, and the second came courtesy of a touch of pinball amongst the Lampeter defenders which saw Chris Bowen sneak in and score.
