Wanted: Girls or ladies rugby players.
A brand new ladies rugby team for Newcastle Emlyn!
Following the success of the recent WRU Cluster club- Clwb Rygbi Wiberod, aimed at getting more school girls playing rugby in the South Ceredigion area Newcastle Emlyn are now keen to take the next step by founding a women’s team.
The Wiberod club which focussed mainly on recruiting 6-15 year old girls from the Emlyn, Cardigan and Llandysul area was a big success, with over 70 girls registered across four age groups in just the first season.
The club was hosted by Newcastle Emlyn RFC, and now Emlyn want to ensure that girl’s who graduate from these squads have a place to play.
The club is hoping to begin a Women’s team with a meeting taking part this Friday 7th October at 7pm, at Newcastle Emlyn RFC. The team will be largely social and is not, for the time being looking to enter any league competition, however they do hope to have regular fixtures.
The hope is that plenty of women players get involved, and then the Ddol Wiber club can look at possibly adding an under 18s next season.
This will improve the pathway for the girl’s coming out of Wiberod.
All abilities are welcome and a range of roles are open to be filled from first aider to team manager and from speedy back to powerful forward !
