HARDING HAT TRICK INSPIRES ROVERS

Costcutter League Football.

Cilgerran Rovers striker Louis Harding inspired his Cilgerran Rovers team to a welcome home win, title challengers Lampeter continued with their rich vein of form and Crannog were just too good for Bargod Rangers.

The north road men secured their sixth win from as many games when they comfortably defeated New Quay by 8-0 for the second weekend running. Luke Lovell and his men were pretty much home and dry by the break as they led by five goals and they are now only three points off leaders Llandysul who didn’t play.

Gethin Hunter grabbed the first and his eleventh of the season when he drove the ball home from close range after some neat build up play and youngster Scott Davies finished clinically after being put through with the keeper to beat to make it 2-0

Luke Lovell drilled the third into the bottom corner from edge of box and the fourth came courtesy of an own goal and Gethin Hunter grabbed the fifth following a good run from Gethin Davies to complete a one sided half.

New Quay made a much better start to the second half whilst Lampeter seemed to rest on their lead and the greens were awarded a penalty for a hand ball but the shot went wide.

This kick started Lampeter back into life and they grabbed a sixth goal when Gethin Davies curled a free kick into the top corner, Lovell grabbed his second with a left foot half volley and the same player went on a mazy run and crossed for Jason Jones to tap in the eighth and final goal.

Crannog enjoyed a 4-2 win away at Bargod Rangers but it was a tough affair and the division strugglers put in a decent performance .Two goals from George Colven settled the visitors down but Rangers hit back after the break when Hefin Jones netted and they pinched another one soon afterwards when Danny Williams was on target but this was deemed to be offside. Had this been allowed it could well have been a different outcome.

Former Magpie on target

Dylan Davies poached a third goal to kill the game off and the three points were wrapped up when Gary Davies fired home.

Cilgerran who have been hit hard by injuries came through for a well deserved win over Felinfach with none better for them than stand in keeper Michael Williams who made some super saves.

Louis Harding opened the home account after the break when he steered home a cross from Dan Bellis and Harding doubled the lead when he got a slight touch to a free kick from Steff Davies. The milkmen responded with a goal before Harding completed his hat trick with a powerful drive from just outside the box to complete a fourth win from seven for the Coraclemen. This a very good start for the division new boys.

The visitors though managed to grab a late consolation goal when another good save from keeper Williams fell into the path of a Felinfach striker who tucked the ball away.

Division 2

Maesglas as expected came through for a one sided win against division strugglers SDUC who are without a point this season. Daniel Jones netted six times for the Blues and Kieran Harmon made the most of some generous defending with four goals. Samba Ndong fired home twice and there were singles for Ricky Myers,Osian Thomas and Mathew Roche as the students were taught a lesson on how not to defend.

Reserves Cup

A Josh Roper hat trick helped steer Lampeter to a 7-2 win over Llanboidy to put them three points clear at the top of the table .

It was Llanboidy though who started the brightest, controlling possession without really testing John Lennon in goal but this all changed on fifteen minutes when Roper scored from a long range free which sneaked in under the defensive wall.

Another soon arrived when Nessim Aroussi drilled home a low shot from just inside the box but the Cae Dandre men hit back when Richard Thorne fired home giving the keeper little chance. Llanboidy struck again soon after when Nathan Keenan fired home from the penalty spot and it was all to play for in the second half with the score locked at 2-2.

Lampeter started the second half well and were rewarded when Gareth Young scored a super goal when he lobbed the keeper and this was followed up by a second from Roper who blasted the ball home. Man of the match Kevin Taylor then added a fifth when he beat two defenders and hit the top corner of the net with a sweet left foot drive.

A penalty was awarded to Lampeter with ten minutes to go and this allowed Roper to complete his hat trick on his first start since injury. Chris Lewis rounded off the scoring, with long range header following David Lewis’ corner, to make it two goals in two matches for the Lampeter captain

Crannog  were far too strong for an under strength Cardigan outfit and ran out worthy winners by 4-1 with Steve Harper bagging a goal for the Magpies with one of his trademark headers from a  corner whilst at Newcastle Emlyn goals from Wayne Jones and Jake Shakespeare earned their side a 2-0 win over Bargod Rangers Reserves.

CUP ACTION

League Cup

Blackford back

Cardigan Town were forced to work hard before they finally came through for a win in the League Cup against second division outfit Pencader by 2-1.

The Magpies who welcomed back midfielder Ben Davies from injury and experienced central defender Steve Blackford who has been busy preparing for the Snowdonia Marathon took time to get going but they were given an early opportunity to score from the penalty spot but Davies saw his shot palmed out by keeper Chris Stevens.

It seems nobody wants to score from the penalty spot anymore at Cardigan !

Goals though eventually followed when normal penalty taker Iestyn Evans let fly from the edge of the box after twenty minutes and a second arrived just after half time when Ewan Jones netted.

Liam Gordan brought his team back into the game with a late goal but Town kept the ball to run the clock down and hung on for the win they deserved.

Division two team Ffostrasol knocked out Dewi Stars from division one with a goal from Dion Davies, whilst Newcastle Emlyn were given their game at Aberaeron as the hosts were unable to field a side.

South Cards Cup

Aberporth travelled to Llanboidy with only ten men but to their credit they battled away and played some very good football at times.

The airmen went behind to an early goal from Rhys Jenkins but they battled back and levelled through Johnny Kinsella who tucked away his third of the season after pouncing on a shot that the keeper had parried away.

The visitors we were on top in the opening period of the second half and creating some decent chances and came close to scoring. However a few costly mistakes cost them dearly as goals from Ellis Williams, Rhys Jenkins and Celt Thomas Jones saw the hosts through for a win despite the best efforts of Liam Griffiths and keeper Ryan Banks.
