ROARING SUCCESS AT HUNTER TRIALS

The Tivyside Hunt held its annual Hunter Trials at Trefach Farm, Boncath over the weekend and was a roaring success with local riders and several coming from far afield to support the event.Writes Anwen Francis.

With classes ranging from 1’6 to 2’6 and pairs, the course proved technical and challenging with some new fences, sponsored by several individuals and businesses.

Master of the Hunt Carolyn Morgan was delighted with the day, and the few spells of heavy showers couldn’t dampen spirits. ‘We were delighted with the event and lucky with the weather and turnout. We aim to host two events next year – one in the spring and the other in the autumn. It is difficult to find a date that doesn’t clash with any other event, but we will do our best,’ explained Carolyn.

The course, over five fields is suitable for novice, young riders and horses, and offers an array of excellent fences to suit all.

Carolyn added: ‘The course is in a great setting as it incorporates the river and undulating field and creates a great venue for a cross country course. This year, we had kind sponsors to build new jumps and we will continue to improve the course by putting up new ones. We are fortunate to have many people volunteer their time to make everything run so smoothly and lucky to have the support of Wyn and Glenda Jones who own the land we run the course on, and Anna their daughter who organises the event.’
