Newcastle Emlyn Ladies 3 Cascade Ladies 1
Newcastle Emlyn produced a superb second half performance to get their new season off to flier with a well deserved win.
The Emlyn ladies who went behind to an early goal, fought their way back and there were none better than inspirational skipper Carys Davies who got her team on the score sheet just after the interval and they never looked back after this.
The reds who have a small squad this term as well as a change of manager were slow to come out of the blocks and Cascade took their opportunity and took the lead mid way through the first half.
The reds though bounced back and dominated possession and the visitors defence and goal keeper then came under waves of attack as the hosts got into their stride but a succession of chances went begging.
The second half produced a similar story with Emlyn struggling to make it count in the final third but they eventually got their equaliser from a set piece when captain Carys Davies netted.
This gave the young Emlyn side a confidence boost and their talented teens showed just what they are capable of with Ffion Jones and Holly Reed in particular causing problems down the flanks whilst Ella Rees was superb in midfield.
Newcastle Emlyn finally took the lead through experienced campaigner Debbie Wise when she was first to respond when the ball broke loose in the penalty box and she tucked the ball away. This followed soon afterwards by a great piece of individual skill from right winger Ffion Jones whose very cool finish made it 3-1 and sealed a well deserved win for the reds.
