FRIDAY RUGBY PREVIEW
Cardigan will create a bit of history tomorrow when they make their first ever trip to Tregaron for a national league match with the only previous meetings between the clubs having taken place in friendlies.
The North Ceredigion side celebrated their 40th anniversary last April but they are relatively inexperienced when it comes to National League rugby and many will expect Cardigan to come through for a comfortable victory.
However Milford only just sneaked off from the secondary school field with a narrow win last weekend against the Division Three West A newcomers and a very similar Mariners outfit gave Cardigan a good old hiding in the final game of last season. If the Cardi’s focus is not spot on they could be in for a difficult afternoon as Tregaron will be up for this one.
Coach Colin Horscroft had a good turn out in training this week and has no major injury worries ahead of this all Ceredigion clash with scrum half Luke Rogers in great form as well as speedy full back Alun Jenkins and the Cardi’s have the pace to cause some damage.
One concern last weekend was the scrum and it was noticeable that experienced tight head Richard ‘RaRa’ Jones was training this week and he may be set for a call up.
Tregaron pushed Milford all the way last weekend and crossed for two tries through winger Rhydian Davies and Gareth Jones and are capable of catching Cardigan cold. They also have a decent kicker in Llifon Jones but Cardigan should still be too strong all round.
In Division 3 West B Lampeter entertain Nantgaredig and will be confident after securing a comfortable away win on the opening day. In division two west Llanybydder entertain Tycroes and they will be keen to bounce back after a heavy defeat away at Hendy last Saturday.
Fishguard who sneaked an excellent success away at Tenby entertain Tumble and this promises to be a dogged affair but the seagulls have shown good form in recent weeks and with the pitches drying out they should come through for a win.
