JUST PERFECT SAYS JONES

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1: Aberaeron 2 Montgomery 0. report-

Goals from Mattie Davies and Gareth Severs helped secure a confidence boosting win for Aberaeron ahead of their clash with local rivals Bow Street tomorrow night.

The seagulls who were edged out by Machynlleth last time out travelled up to Montgomery with a much changed line up with Sion Clarke serving the first of a three match suspension and  Rhodri Thomas, James Hemming and Gareth and David Evans all missing.

Manager Jason Jones drafted in youngster Jack Chetwynd along with Jamie Owen and Dan Bourne with Jamie Butler and Mathew Evans on the bench and the visitors took time to settle and their cause was not helped when Chetwynd was forced to leave the field early with a hamstring injury.

Just perfect for Jones

He was replaced by Mathew Evans who came in to midfield with Ryan Jones moving out to a wider position and the black and ambers put together a string of passes which culminated in Mike Gornal feeding Mattie Davies who finished superbly from an acute angle.

Montgomery came back at the visitors with Barry Edwards forced into making a superb save low down to his right and having to palm the ball past the post and with the game opening up Aeron pushed hard and Gareth Severs pressurised the hosts defence and the ball fell kindly for the front runner who calmly slotted the ball home to put his team 2-0 up.

Jamie Owen enjoyed the final chance of the half to put the game to bed when he combined well with his team mates only for the hosts keeper to save well.

Montgomery started the second half at a frantic pace and Dan Bourne and his centre back partner Rhodri Edwards were tested several times but they managed to keep their opponents out and goalkeeper Edwards was largely a spectator as the second half wore on.

Jamie Butler was brought on with 15 minutes to go for man of the match Jamie Owen with his side set for a comfortable win and all attention will now be focussed on tomorrow evening when Bow Street come to town.

Manager Jason Jones was in buoyant mood after the match and said “I asked the team to respond and put in a better performance to the last game and what they put out there today was just perfect”.
