CARDIGAN CRUISE TO VICTORY

Pembrokeshire Cup Round 1.

Cardigan 65 St Davids 0

Cardigan cruised to a comfortable win as expected in the Pembrokeshire Cup and lived up to their tag as one of the favourites for promotion in division three alongside Milford and possibly St Clears who are rumoured to have strengthened their ranks considerably since last term.

The Cardi’s who fielded pretty much the same squad that were edged out in the promotion showdown with Haverfordwest at the end of last season got off to a flier when experienced back rower Colin Davies made a break from half way and he popped up a pass for second row Dean Harries who powered his way over the try line. Outside half Luke Rogers converted and even at this early stage the writing looked on the wall for the visitors who on this performance are in for another tough season at the wrong end of the table.

Further tries were run in as scrum half and player of the year Aaron Evans scampered over and this was followed by first half tries from Kieran Hurley, full back Marcus Castle and back rower Davies.

The hosts kept the pressure on in the second half and they added to their try tally with Luke Rogers, Emyr Harries and Dafydd Watkins amongst the scorers with Rogers adding the extras.

A promising start by Colin Horscroft and his men and the affable coach will have been pleased with some of the handling of both his backs and forwards as they scored some excellent tries. There will of course be bigger fish to fry as the season unfolds but this was an ideal pre season warm up match and they have a chance to do similar again in a week when they travel to Llanidloes for a friendly with the league season set to kick off on September 3rd with a home game against St Davids.
