CARDIGAN BOWLERS CLEAN UP

Cardigan were once again the dominant club at the Ceredigion Bowling Association County Finals held at Newcastle Emlyn on the new all weather surface.

The Gwbert Road club completed a five timer with all of its finalists winning and securing their places at the Welsh Championships at Llandrindod Wells in August.

Paul Monders took the Open Singles championship when he beat Lampeter bowler Henry Jones by 21-17 on the new all weather strip and this was a close contest all through with Monders losing his weight for a few ends and Jones threatening to come from behind to win. Monders though held out for his second county singles title.

Neville Morgan captured another title for Cardigan when he defeated John Jones of Tregaron in the Senior Singles(over 60) by 21-9 with Jones never quite getting to grips with the new surface and his big swinging bowls making it tough to draw.

Tomos Bolton of Cardigan came from well behind to defeat Elgan Evans of Tregaron in the under 25 singles final. Evans was 9-2 up after seven ends but sixteen year old Bolton remained patient throughout and eventually came through following some superb drawing to win by four shots.

Dilwyn Jones and Neville Morgan took the honours in the Open Pairs when they defeated the Tregaron pairing of David Bennett and John Jones by 27-16 and the Cardigan rink of Colin James, Marc James, Paul Monders and Kevin James completed a nap hand for their club when they edged out the Aberystwyth rink of Arwel Jones, Bertie Jones, Ian Pugh and Rowland Salmon by one shot following an extra end.

Young Lampeter bowler Hari Butten lifted the under 18 title after defeating Dafydd Jones of Newcastle Emlyn by 21-12.

Tregaron bowler John Jones made it third time lucky when he steered his triumvirate of David Meredith,John Burns-Davies and Gwynne Jones to a 16-10 win over Dennis Thomas, Dave Rees, Neil Immins and John Hill of New Quay in the Senior Rinks.

Immins and skip John G. Evans made up for defeat in the rinks by beating the Lampeter pair of Eddie Thomas and Elfan James in the final of the Senior Pairs by 22-10
