The competition was fierce over the two day competition and the three women’s teams of North East, Gwent and South Glamorgan couldn’t live with the West Wales girls .

First time captain Nia, was over the moon her team had won and told Sportsline.

‘The West Wales team last won this competition in 2010, and as captain I really wanted our team to win and show how strong we are. Going in to the tournament we were seeded to come fourth out of four and our first game was against the top seeded team of North East, who we beat 3-2. It was a fantastic result,’ explained Nia.

That afternoon, the West Wales team, along with Nia Davies comprised of Gemma Davies (Cardigan), Julie Thomas (Llanelli), Alice Richards (Neath), Heather Charles (Llanelli) and Annette Davies (Newcastle Emlyn) played against second seeds Gwent to claim another 3-2 victory. ‘I was so proud of the team,’ said Nia. ‘We needed to keep the momentum going into the third and final match on Sunday to make sure that we were victorious. I told the ladies that we could win this and that I believed in each one of them. On the Sunday, we beat South Glamorgan 4-1! ‘We will be receiving our award at the Wales Squash and Racketball annual dinner on the 1st of July in Cardiff, where we will celebrate this achievement. The standard was very high this year compared to the last few years and we weren’t expected to win. But we did and it was a terrific result to win the last Championship of the season,’ concluded Nia.
