PLAINS RALLY
The champagne was flowing last weekend when the Cenarth based Williams Rally Team secured their maiden victory in the 1400 class at the BTRDA Plains Rally held near Welshpool.
Driver James Williams and co driver Paul Wakeley were quietly confident of getting a good outcome and turning the tide following a recent run of bad luck and they finally achieved the result they deserved with an outstanding performance through the seven stages.
The crew set off for the final stage unaware that they had a 17 second lead in the class, but in reflection it would not have made a difference as the KA powered by HT INSTALLATIONS LTD was almost unbeatable.
James was understandably delighted with this first taste of success which he described as being very sweet and he added: “I honestly cannot believe it as just a year ago, I started and finished my first rally in Welshpool and now a year later I am on the top step of the podium swigging the champagne and the silverware is in our hands- it’s a dream come true.
“It has been a long journey to get here and so many people have contributed to giving me the best possible car for the job and after the recent run of poor luck, it really does make those long hours worthwhile.
“We had a fantastic day, the sun was shining and there were masses of people watching and to get the win amongst such a strong field of competitors is absolutely fantastic.
“ I would like to say a massive thanks to the entire team at Spencer Sport; hopefully we can continue working together in the future, all of my crew at JWR have been fantastic and I’m so proud to be a part of it and finally, my sponsors who have made it all possible.”
